Early teams news: £32m man returns for Newcastle and two Man Utd stars banned

Tonight feels absolutely huge, handing us a chance to end 2024 in style, make it five wins on the spin in all competitions and move 10 points clear of Man Utd.

However, wins at Old Trafford have been few and far between in the league, with us coming away with three points just ONCE since the Premier League began thanks to Yohan Cabaye’s strike in 2013.

Here’s the latest on injuries, suspensions and availability heading into tonight’s 8pm kick-off:

Livramento boost

According to The Chronicle, Tino Livramento will be back in the squad after recovering from illness which kept him out of our 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day. With Kieran Trippier touch and go after his withdrawal last week, it’s a timely return.

Nick Pope (knee), Callum Wilson (hamstring) and Jamaal Lascelles (ACL) remain out. It remains to be seen if Sven Botman or Emil Krafth (collarbone) can return, although it’s likely to come too soon for both.

Fabian Schar and Sandro Tonali are a yellow card away from a one-match ban, so we’ll have to hope both avoid bookings that would rule them out of Saturday’s trip to Spurs.

Two out and Rashford returns

Staying on the subject of suspensions, both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte will miss out for Man Utd.

Fernandes was sent off in their 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Boxing Day, while Ugarte picked up his fifth booking of the season in that same game, earning him a one-game ban. As a result, Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are likely to start in midfield.

One player who is back for Man Utd despite being left out of their last four games is Marcus Rashford, who has been recalled by Ruben Amorim.

Elsewhere, England duo Luke Shaw and Mason Mount remain injured and will miss out once again.

Predicted line-ups

Newcastle: (4-3-3): Dubravka – Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall – Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton – Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

Man Utd (3-4-3): Onana – De ligt, Maguire, Martinez – Mazraoui, Casemiro, Mainoo, Dalot – Amad, Hojlund, Garnacho.
