Gary Neville nails it on Alexander Isak

Gary Neville has now had his say on the talent of Alexander Isak after watching Newcastle United record their fifth victory in a row with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Isak once again found himself on the scoresheet, ensuring that he netted in all six of our Premier League games in December and taking his tally for the season up to 12.

With the form that he is in at the moment it’s hard to argue against him being one of the best attackers in the world, and those outside of Newcastle are really starting to appreciate his qualities.

Neville explains why Isak is the ‘best striker in the league’

While many claimed that we had overpaid for the Swedish international, the £63m to Real Sociedad is looking more and more like a bargain with every game, and we could easily demand more than double that for his services.

Watching his performance against Man United, Neville was left struggling to think of a better striker in the league at the minute – Erling Haaland included – adding that his movement and quality of play is ‘absolutely fantastic’.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, he said: “Isak’s movement and the quality of his play – he’s absolutely fantastic. He’s improving all the time, we know he can score goals, he can run, but also his hold-up play and link with others I think he’s got better and better the more he’s been at Newcastle.

“We threw back to the studio, Dave Jones asked Jamie Carragher if he was the best striker in the Premier League, at this moment, I think he is. Purely because you watch Erling Haaland a lot and he’s a world-class striker but his general play is nothing like Isak’s at this moment in time.”

Neville is bang on. Isak’s all-round game is on another level to Haaland’s, with his ability to link the play, drop short or dribble past defenders on another level.

Newcastle’s best transfer business could be holding onto Isak

These next two transfer windows will be absolutely huge for Newcastle who are hoping for a return to Europe, but while incomings are what every fan is watching out for, keeping are starting to players is equally as important.

There have been many rumours regarding Isak’s future with some suggesting Arsenal should be breaking the bank for him, but we are not the same club we were five years ago and the gap between us and the Gunners is not as big as it once was.

If Isak is happy at the club and we can offer him the wages he wants then there is no reason why we cannot be competing alongside Arsenal in these next few years, and Isak will surely play a key part in that.
