Botman starts, Son benched – Confirmed Spurs and Newcastle line-ups

The team sheets are in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Newcastle United take on Spurs in todays 12.30 kick off.

Newcastle are on a roll, up to fifth and looking to build on five straight wins, while Spurs come into this without a victory in their last three games, conceding nine goals in that period.

Here are the two line-ups Eddie Howe and Ange Postecoglou have gone with.

Team news from Tottenham

Newcastle XI: Dubravka – Livramento, Botman, Burn, Hall – Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton – Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

SUBS: Vlachodimos, Trippier, Barnes, Osula, Almiron, Kelly, Willock, Longstaff, Miley.

Spurs XI: Austin – Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence – Bergvall, Sarr, Kulusevski – Johnson, Solanke, Werner.

SUBS: Whiteman, Reguilón, Dorrington, Hardy, Bissouma, Maddison, Olusesi, Son, Lankshear.

Howe has made two changes, with Sven Botman coming in at centre-back for the suspended Fabian Schar, making his first start in the Premier League for nine months after ACL surgery last year.

Kieran Trippier is fit but drops to the bench, seeing Tino Livramento come back into the side at right-back.

For Spurs, they are not only without Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven through injury or suspension, but a recent wave of ‘illness’ has spread through their squad this week.

This may explain why both Son, Bissouma and Maddison are only on the bench, along with Fraser Forster’s absence from the squad.

It feels like we won’t get a better chance to beat another ‘big six’ rival and boost our hopes of a top-four finish.

Hopefully we’re ’at it’ again and get the job done. Howay the lads!

  1. Botman’s first start for 9 months! That’s some absence. We never hear anything about Lascelles who seems to be in a very similar injury fix, so there ought to be some sort of news, sometime.
