Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou hasn’t hidden his anger after Newcastle took all three points back to Tyneside in Saturday’s early kick off.
Speaking after the game, Postecoglou addressed the controversial VAR call for Joelinton’s interception that led to Anthony Gordon’s equaliser.
It’s fair to say he isn’t a happy man, well and truly throwing his toys out of the pram in his post-match press conference, despite VAR following handball protocols for our equalising goal:
Postecoglou said: ““I’m really, really angry, angriest I think I have ever been in my career. You can talk about whatever you want. You want my opinion? If all things were equal and balanced, we would have won.”
Whilst the Mags currently enjoy a six game win streak in all competitions, Spurs have been waiting since early November for a win at home…and it shows based on Ange’s post-match rant.
He added: “We (Tottenham) had plenty of chances. Our football was outstanding considering everything we’re going through.”
“If it was an even playing field we would have won. I know what you want me to say so stop asking. I know you just want me to say something, I think it’s clear.”
“On the balance of play, any balance you want with all things equal, we would have won today…things weren’t equal and balanced.”
The Premier League Match Centre outlined why Gordon’s goal was allowed within minutes of the initial decision, saying: ‘The referee’s call of goal was confirmed by VAR, who checked for a potential handball by Joelinton in the build-up and deemed that his arm was by his side, in a natural position and the contact was accidental.’ Perhaps Ange needs to be reminded of the rules?
The win for Newcastle has propelled them to 35 points, right on the tale of Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal and well clear of ‘big six’ rivals Spurs (11 clear) and Man Utd (14 clear).
Defeat has left Postecoglou and Spurs still in the bottom half of the table, closer to 18th place Ipswich than they are to 5th place Newcastle.

Typical whinging Ozzie!
Typical whinging Spurs!
Typical usual loss to Newcastle!
Jog on… Ireland will overcome

I’ve recounted and Newcastle had 11 players & Spurs had 11 players.
The only thing that wasn’t balanced or equal was the 15 added mins in the 2nd half – and yet despite being given all that extra time you still couldn’t get close – Solanke, Johnson, Son, Maddison – not sure which forward players they are missing …. and we made it easier but stop attacking in the 2nd half.
Doesn’t get much better than that Ange 🤷🏼♂️.

What really bugs me is when (as always happens) whingers like Postecoglou say “we would undoubtedly have won”, conveniently ignoring the fact that in the 97 minutes of football that were played after that incident – guess what? We scored again and they didn’t score. Arteta displayed the same attitude last season when we beat them, saying they had been deprived of three points. They also had over half an hour of football to play and they didn’t score at all.
Furthermore, the supposed “VAR corruption” trumpeted by hard-done-by fans is supposedly a “favour the “big six” conspiracy, isn’t it? We, as a “little club/unattractive opposition” (according to Tottenham fans) surely would not benefit from such a corruption?
Finally, every time we win, they find some reason to discredit it – Duran sent off, Joelinton’s goal v Man Utd, today’s handball. Why, even Ipswich claimed Bruno fouled a player before our third goal! Every time they find something.
Nonsense, all of it.
