New Lloyd Kelly claims from Italy – Newcastle now insisting on Juventus clause?

Lloyd Kelly is the latest Mag to be heavily linked with a potential January move away, barely six months on from his free agent arrival from Bournemouth.

Last week we saw strong links with Fenerbahce, who appear to have gone elsewhere after agreeing to sign Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos instead, but Juventus are the latest club to show interest.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Serie A giants’ interest on Sunday and there’s now been updates arriving from Italy.

New claims from Italy on Lloyd Kelly

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport are the latest to report on Lloyd Kelly and a potential move to Juventus for the Newcastle United defender.

After reports on Sunday stated that Juventus had initially requested a loan-to-buy transfer, it’s claimed Newcastle will only entertain that deal if it includes an obligation to buy for €30m (£25m) at the end of the season.

This fits in with that The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder reported earlier today, claiming the club were reluctant to sell but sanction his sale for PSR reasons if a £25m bid arrived.

However, it doesn’t seem likely that Juve match our demands. Gazzetta state that the Old Lady are not keen on an obligation-to-buy clause and value Kelly well below £25m.

Sky Italy also report that Juventus are exploring their options, stating that Chelsea’s Renato Veiga has also been looked at if talks over Kelly don’t reach a positive conclusion.

Newcastle right to stand firm

Kelly hasn’t had the best of starts at Newcastle and has work to do to win back his place in Howe’s XI, but we’re also an injury or two away from needing

A loan with no obligation to buy does not benefit us at all, wages aside, so you can see why Newcastle have no interest in a loan that does not include a compulsory clause.

Yes, he arrived on a free over the summer and is yet to impress, but it would be poor business to accept a low-ball offer and take any profit we can just because he arrived without a transfer fee a few months ago.

He is still a solid squad player, making it silly for Newcastle to sell unless a good offer comes in and/or we can use those funds to make a signing of our own this month. With the club competing on three fronts, selling on the cheap for no real gain wouldn’t make sense.

  1. Howay David, you’ve barely seen him play man, Gordon and hall both looked like bad business to begin with, takes time to get up to Howes level.

  2. Lads never had a chance and needs a run of games to prove how good he is. I don’t think Eddie Howe trusts him.

  3. I agree he hasn’t had a go yet. I think start of the season he was probably seen as him and Schar as the middle pairing or at LB. But the form of Burn (Less the weekend) and Hall he’s not had the run of games, I think he deserves a run of games before we really judge.

That said but I think if we do need to move some players other than Miggy on for PSR in Jan then one of Tripp’s, Targett or Kelly would make sense. All high earners who aren’t getting a look in at the moment. I think we have enough to cover off; Kelly we do have Lascelles coming back (Not like for like, but we can move pairings around), Burn can also do a job at LB, then Kraft for Tripp’s. All not the same quality/ ability in those positions but with those 3 costing upwards of 300K PW on the bench with Tino, Hall having the first choice FB positions nailed down. Then we do have a bit of depth at CB with 4 when Lascelles is fit (5 if you include Kraft).

  4. Every player has a price.
    Bruno? 120 million.
    Isak? 150 million.
    Tonali? 120 million.
    Kelly? 15 and he’s yours!

  5. Remind me how many clubs bid to trigger Bruno’s £100m release clause and that’s way over the top for him
