Miguel Almiron’s time on Tyneside look to have finally come to an end.
After six years at the club, where he momentarily became our club-record signing from Atlanta United in January 2019, the Paraguayan is heading back to the MLS.
He’ll rejoin former club Atalanta and Fabrizio Romano has revealed all the details in a Monday morning update:
Romano reveals all on Almiron move
In a ‘here we go’ announcement 23million followers just a few moments ago, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Miguel Almiron has left Newcastle for Atlanta United.
He reveals that the club look set to receive $12m – roughly £9.6m in GBP – with a ‘verbal agreement’ now sealed between all parties for the move to go ahead.
Romano adds that Almiron will sign a four-and-a-half year deal with the MLS side; a very good contract for Miggy at the age of 30.
The next steps are a medical, with the winger now on his way to America to complete all the formalities, suggesting Saturday’s post-match wave at Southampton really was his final goodbye.
Howe hails Miggy – “We love him to bits”
Speaking after of our 3-1 win at Southampton, Eddie Howe revealed why he wanted Almiron to have his moment in front of the travelling Toon Army.
“Miggy’s not that kind of character that’s got a huge ego that absorbs all the attention. But I just felt it was imperative that we got him to the front. And everyone acknowledged he’s been unbelievable for us. His attitude, his commitment, the way he’s played.”
“I’m not saying it’s a goodbye. We don’t know what’s going to happen. But I just thought it was a great moment for him.”
It seems that really was a goodbye wave from the winger, who leaves at the right time for all parties considering his age and lack of game time, coupled with the fact Newcastle needed a sale to stand any chance of spending this month.
Thank you for your efforts, Miggy! All the best.
That’s good business, I thought we’d have to take a smaller fee. Let’s hope we’re not paying a portion of his wages for what would’ve been the rest of his contract with us. Wishing Miggy all the best, I’m sure he’ll be happy to be going back to Atlanta.
