Newcastle reject €3m bid + add-ons as player has change of heart – TalkSPORT

The January window ended with a few outgoings at Newcastle United and no incomings, capping off a frustrating month but one that eases our PSR situation considerably ahead of a huge summer for the club.

Other late exits were touted last month, with Matt Targett briefly linked to Leeds and a few international offers for Greek stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos turned down by the player.

However, there is another senior player who has continued to receive interest in the early weeks of February, with certain overseas transfer windows still open.

Newcastle reject €3m bid

Despite interest and a feeling that he was ready to move on, Kieran Trippier is set to stay on Tyneside until at least the end of the season.

TalkSPORT report that Newcastle United have rejected an offer from Galatasaray for the 34-year-old, with the Turkish giants making a late bid before the Super Lig window shut last night,

It’s believed Galatasaray offered €3m plus add-ons for the right-back and were willing to hand the former England regular a three-year deal in Istanbul.

However, the report states that Trippier had a change of heart and did not push for the move now we have reached the Carabao Cup final.

The veteran defender played a key role in our 2-0 win over Arsenal in last week’s semi-final second leg. On recent form, he has every chance of starting next month’s final against Liverpool, especially when his experience, grit and leadership could be key against Arne Slot’s Reds.

Experience vital for upcoming run

Trippier is out of contract next summer and turns 35 later this year. It is more than likely that he departs this summer, but he can still play a huge role over the final three months of the 2024/25 season.

With our squad light on numbers all while we compete for a top-our finish, hope to win the Carabao Cup and continue progressing in the FA Cup, Trippier’s leadership and know-how could be massive.

He was the first big name to take the leap post-takeover and may well be the most important signing Howe made since new owners arrived. If this is to be his last season on Tyneside, let’s hope it ends with silverware and another Champions League finish!
