Newcastle United have made their stance known on star players leaving in the summer transfer window.
Eddie Howe’s side have fallen out of the Champions League qualifying positions after a run of three defeats in four Premier League games, with Saturday’s hammering at Man City seeing us fall to 7th.
Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon have been no stranger to links away over recent windows, and Newcastle’s recent dip in form has seen rumours return.
Newcastle make stance clear on star players
According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Newcastle United will NOT allow their best players to leave this summer – even if they miss out on Champions League.
It’s believed the club are in a strong PSR position and have no need to sell, with plans in place to grow in the coming months and invest in the first team squad – not lose some of our top assets.
Our star players are also tied down to long-term contracts and will be held on to regardless of if we secure European football, with the board expecting our key men to be part of an effort to qualify for the Champions League again, should we miss out.
It sends a message to our dressing room that if they want to play in Europe’s top competition then they will have to earn it in black-and-white, and hopefully quashes talk in the media too about our players jumping ship.
The club also want to make it known to rival bidders and agents that the likes of Arsenal-linked Isak, Man City-linked Guimaraes and Liverpool-linked Gordon won’t be in the shop window in a few months time should we miss out on the top five.
PSR position boosts spending hopes
Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson’s exits last summer disrupted the squad and raised questions in the dressing room about player’s futures but, with three windows of no first team signings and several sales, the club are finally in a position to strengthen in the coming window.
Several high profile names have been linked with moves to Tyneside, with quality right-winger, young right-sided centre-back and (potentially) a striker to replace Callum Wilson likely to be high on Howe’s agenda.
If we are to qualify for European competition this season we must at the very least add some depth to our squad, with our ranks already thinner than our injury-depleted Champions League squad of 2023/24.

For sure the squad needs strengthening!

We will not make top 6 for sure, not sure about top 8, i don’t think PIF can allow this to carry on, Eddie needs to leave.
