Newcastle plan two trips and Premier League clash ahead of busy summer – Report

Newcastle’s pre-season plans for the upcoming season have reportedly been revealed, as the Mags continue to grow their popularity across the globe.

Much like last season, Eddie Howe’s side are set for a foray to the Far East, having not been selected for a spot in the Premier League Summer Series in America.

With the prospect of European football coming to Tyneside next season, it’s already looking like a packed season ahead for the players and fans alike.

Destination: Hong Kong and Dubai

According to Craig Hope’s Newcastle Confidential column for The Mail, the club are set to travel to Hong Kong in Asia for a pre-season tour before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Plans are pencilled in for Eddie Howe’s side to play at the brand new Kai Tak Stadium in Kowloon, which boasts a 50,000 seat capacity.

Hope writes that a friendly against fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur is also being looked at after the two sides met in Australia just a few days after the 2023/24 season.

Before any pre-season tours, however, a trip to Dubai has also been organised, with the same report revealing that we’ll fly to the Middle East and use the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai for a period of warm-weather training straight after the Carabao Cup Final.

A return to the Far East

Having not been invited to the Premier League’s annual pre-season ‘Summer Series’ event for the second year in a row, it should come as no surprise that the club is trying to grow its popularity elsewhere across the globe.

Of course, Newcastle had a foray in Asia last season, having played friendlies in both Australia and Japan.

Here’s hoping that the team can avoid repeating some of the dire performances in said friendlies this time around, having lost to the likes of the A-League All Stars and Yokohama F.Marinos.

An inspirational trip?

Newcastle’s fixtures are being touted for the Kai Tak Stadium in Kowloon – and the remarkable venue could be an early indicator for what a new Newcastle stadium may look like.

Hope writes “The Hong Kong stadium is a truly stunning design and is part of the regeneration of an area that was once an airport site.”

Even thought its architects, Populous, aren’t amongst the candidates to design a new home for Newcastle, the ‘bubble wrap’ exterior design of the Kai Tek Stadium won’t be too far away from what we can expect a new Stadium to look like.
