New right-winger target goes public as Newcastle eye Portuguese international

Newcastle United are looking to bolster their Carabao Cup winning squad this summer, with new signings expected in every department.

All indications have been that the Toon will spend spending during the next window with a number of signing planned. After three windows without a major signing, movement is needed and expected in 2025.

Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy started on the flanks for Toon as deservedly ended our trophy drought, and a Portuguese winger is apparently being considered as someone to bolster our options out wide.

Portuguese winger being watched

Sporting Lisbon right winger Francisco Trincao is being monitored for a potential move to Tyneside this summer,  according to Mark Douglas of The i Paper.

Since his spell at Wolves, the tall and talented left-footed attacker has done very well, showing why he was once a highly-rated prospect on Barcelona’s books.

With 20 goal contributions already this season, added to by another 33 since he returned to his native Portugal in 2022/23, is a mass improvement on his forgettable spell in the Premier League.

25-year-old Trincao is not the only winger on Newcastle’s watchlist. Antoine Semenyo and Bryan Mbeumo are amongst the other possibilities being considered by sporting director Paul Mitchell, with PSV’s Johan Bakayoko and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling also linked.

Tough spell at Wolves but superb at Sporting

Two goals and a singular assist in 28 Premier League appearances at Wolves don’t paint the full picture of Trincao’s ability.

Considering what’s happened in the last few seasons, it’s hard to really doubt the decisions we make with squad building regardless.

Yes, six of the 14 who featured at Wembley were here pre-takeover, but there have been major doubts about some of the other eight during their spells in black-and-white.

Judge Joelinton at his worst, not his epic final performance, and you get a completely different judgement of the man – to give one example. If Newcastle Freeman Eddie Howe has prove anything it’s his ability to transform!

Trincao will not need an entire overhaul after maturing into a fine player since his previous Premier League stint. His output this season speaks for itself.
