Two Premier League sides look set to battle it out for the signature of Sean Longstaff this summer.
Newcastle’s win at Wembley will mean the boyhood Mag will end his career with a winners medal for his hometown club, but the 27-year-old may leave the North East in the next window after falling down the pecking order as Lewis Miley continues to progress.
Everton had already been linked as a potential new home for the midfielder and another surprising candidate has emerged.
Premier League rivals join Longstaff chase
In a development few saw coming this weekend, Manchester United have joined Everton in pursuit of Sean Longstaff, according to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had expressed interest in buying Longstaff in 2019, back when he broke into the side impressively under former boss Rafa Benitez.
However, it’s believed the Red Devils were put off by a hefty £50million price tag slapped on the Geordie midfielder’s head at the time.
Now 27, with just one year remaining on his current deal, the lad from North Shields finds himself at a point in his career where he needs regular first-team action after falling out of favour. With that in mind, a fee now would be a fraction of what it was six years ago.
Everton’s interest has also been well documented and it’s thought David Moyes is also a big fan of Longstaff, with talkSPORT reporting on a potential move to Merseyside just last week.

Sale makes sense – and looks more and more likely
Longstaff would depart the area with a heavy heart as a sale away from the Toon looks increasingly likely.
Sandro Tonali has become a key part of the Newcastle midfield since returning from his ban, starring alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Lewis Miley also needs minutes to continue in his development, and already has quite the task with the three aforementioned names.
As an academy graduate, Longstaff would represent pure profit from a PSR perspective and this summer will be the last chance for the club to get a decent fee before his contract expires in 2026.
Now in the peak years of his career, Longstaff will be in pursuit of game time and can definitely offer first team football at a Premier League side.
Forever in the history books as an EFL Cup medal holder if his time with us is up, scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout against Nottingham Forest to start our journey.

Who dreams this stuff up? I don’t believe for a minute that Amorim is sitting there thinking Longstaff is part of his solution to Man Utd problems.

The players that make his system work are players that run at the defence not the players that control midfield lol

With European football of some sort already confirmed .. they will need a deep squad and I would thought longstaff might see out his last year or they will get a replacement
