New hint at Newcastle plans and cup final truth – Interesting words from Kieran Trippier

There have been questions about whether or not Kieran Trippier will still be a Newcastle United player after the summer transfer window.

The 34-year-old was the first statement signing after PIF finally completed the takeover in 2021, where the high-profile arrival of the former Atletico Madrid defender felt like a major turning point in the perception of a new-look Newcastle.

Over three years on from his arrival in January 2022, Trippier has captained us into the Champions League and earned himself a Carabao Cup winners medal after leading us in the dogfight away from a relegation battle.

Talk surrounding the future of Trippier has been ongoing within the media, however words directly from the man himself appear to paint a different picture to the press.

Toon veteran hungry for more?

Despite suggestions that he’ll depart Newcastle United this summer, Kieran Trippier doesn’t sound like a man who knows his future lies away from St James’ Park.

The Telegraph recently reported that Eddie Howe could finally sanction a move away this summer after continuous talk of a move following interest from the Saudi Pro League, Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in previous windows.

Trippier reflected on what has been quite the journey on Tyneside as he confessed: “Ever since I arrived at the club, I was questioned, I was doubted. But throughout my career, I’ve no regrets. And here we are now with a winners medal.

“Like I said when I first signed it’s a stepping stone, we stayed up and then got in the Champions League. Got into a cup final then another cup final and won it. So we are building. That is the most important thing.

“We still have a big season to go. We want to finish in the top four. We want to play Champions League football again.”

Champions League football is the ambition, that much has been made clear by Trippier and already from those within the club. It’s a season that will already go down in the club’s history no matter what, though it could get even sweeter yet.

Trippier: Toon learned a lot from 2023

Trippier has once again discussed the lessons learned from our cup final failings in 2023, discussing the distractions that were not allowed to creep in on our victorious return to Wembley two weeks ago.

Emotions and expectations were high two years ago, as they were again this year, but having that past experience clearly worked to our benefit with a confident performance in 2025 as we made the Wembley turf our own.

Trippier said: “Going back to the last cup final the build-up was too emotional,” said Trippier. “I think it is fair to say for the players and supporters, it was emotional because it was the first final in so many years.

“This time around I feel we have been more calm. Just little things like tickets and staying at the Hilton which was a distraction.  We said at the hotel on the eve of the game everything felt more calm.”
