Former Newcastle United forward Craig Bellamy had big praise for Newcastle United on Monday Night Football ahead of the Magpies’ clash against Leicester.

And for one player in particular, Bellamy believes Eddie Howe has a future Premier League winner on his hands.

After finally breaking the silverware duck last month with the Carabao Cup triumph, where this player was instrumental in our success, Bellamy was glowing in his assessment of our midfield maestro and offered a bold prediction to finish.

“The best player to come to Turf Moor”

The Wales Head Coach, who played on Tyneside for four years, showed much love to his former club on Monday Night Football, with particular praise for the captain himself: Bruno Guimaraes.

As Burnley’s former assistant, where he worked under Vincent Kompany last season, Bellamy claimed Bruno was the “best player” he saw at Turf Moor all season during the 2023/24 campaign:

“I like him deeper, I have to be honest. He takes his responsibilities serious, he plays for the team, he respects the team as well, and they clearly respect him.”

“Even last year when we played against him, especially at Turf Moor, he was the best player to come to Turf Moor last year. He commanded the game, we couldn’t get near him. Always had a picture in his head. Always scanning.”

In that game back in May 2024, he bagged the third of four goals that afternoon, as the Clarets had no answer for Bruno’s magic.

Big praise for Bruno

Bellamy then went on to explain why he is such a huge fan of Bruno, discussing why he’s a joy to watch and so tough to play against.

“I just love this kid. Honestly, his appetite for the game is quality, putting through balls in, final balls, but also how he presses.”

Epitomising everything excellent about the club at the moment, Bellamy explained further about how the club’s caught his eye recently:

“It can annoy a lot of people, I actually get excited by it, but when they win a challenge and cheer the crowd and get the crowd up, they show their intent, and that’s why for the last couple of years I’ve been a huge fan of this football team.”

Bellamy backs Bruno to win title

Rounding out his appearance on MNF, Bellamy backed Bruno to truly cement himself amongst the world’s very best midfielders, and is perhaps a future Premier League winner in the making.

“He’s real top end. He’s a player I’m sure in the next year or so, he could go on and win this league. That’s the type of profile I see.”

As Carragher joked about him winning the league with Newcastle, Bellamy said: “If PSR allow them to spend like the others have been able to!”
