Five wins in a row and another huge night at St James’ Park as Newcastle United battered Crystal Palace 5-0 to move third!
Here are our marks out of 10 and comments on each player from a vital three points in our push for a top five finish:
Starting 11
Pope (7.5) – Gave away the penalty but quickly redeemed himself by saving from Eze. Made some good saves throughout and will be pleased with the clean sheet
Trippier (8) – Has formed a strong partnership with Murphy down the right and caused Palace all sorts of problems in the first half especially. Got the assist for the opener
Schar (8) – Scored the fourth just before half time with a smart header and is approaching top form once again. Took a heavy whack from Lerma but carried on
Burn (7.5) – Won everything in the air and is looking a lot more assured in possession. Hard to see him losing his spot when Botman returns
Livramento (8) – Has adapted to his new left back role like a duck to water. One of the best one on one defenders we’ve had in a very long time. Rarely gets beaten
Guimaraes (8) – Really flourishing in a more advanced position which brings out his creativity. Defensive work goes under the radar too but positionally he’s always where he needs to be
Tonali (9) – One of the finest midfielders we’ve had. Simply put, he’s a machine. An unmatched work rate plus elegance and intelligence on the ball. The complete midfielder
Joelinton (7.5) – He did it! Avoided the yellow card which would’ve brought a suspension. Hard to think he was signed as a centre forward when you see how comfortable and effective he is in midfield. Tremendous pressing set up the goal for Isak.
Murphy (9) – Making a mockery of those who say we’re in desperate need for an upgrade on the right wing. Clearly took shooting lessons from Tonali for the opening goal and picked up a customary assist.
Barnes (8.5) – Undroppable in this form. Got a deserved goal and provided the cross for Guehi to divert past his own keeper. Keeping Gordon out of the team on merit. Quality player
Isak (7.5) – Looked like it might have been one of those night for our talisman but added the fifth and final goal with a wonderful first time finish from 25 yards. Had numerous chances throughout but never let his head drop.
Substitutes
Gordon (6.5) – Good to get some minutes in the legs but the game was over as a contest when he came on. Couple of driving runs and a late chance but will need to do more to usurp Barnes
Willock (6.5) – Typically energetic when introduced with some good driving runs from midfield.
Wilson (6) – Would’ve been drooling watching the crosses from Murphy in the first half but unfortunately failed to do much when he came on.
Longstaff (6) – Wasn’t able to have much of an influence. Made some good defensive decisions
Krafth (NR)

Tonali is our Kante, he was everywhere again last night, it’s like having an extra player on the pitch,
great 3 points and a great performance, let’s keep it going until the end of the season, 🙏🙏🙏
