Newcastle United have put themselves in the driving seat for Champions League football with five Premier League wins in the row.
Of course that number is six in all competitions and includes the Mags beating league leaders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and the form that has continued on from that point has left St. James’ Park in party mode.
Alexander Isak added another to his tally on Wednesday night to move level with Erling Haaland’s 21 goals in the league this season, with the Scandinavian pair both six behind Golden Boot favourite Mohamed Salah.
Bookies back Toon to hold top four
Unsurprisingly, Newcastle have been given short odds to retain their position in the top four after climbing above Nottingham Forest with a 5-0 battering of Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
The Mags moved four points behind Arsenal, and odds of 7/1 feel decent value to catch Mikel Arteta’s side who will no doubt have one eye on their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
If we can replicate or better our nine game winning run from earlier in the season, then we have every chance of catching Arsenal. We also still have the Gunners to play in the second last game of the season, and have already beat them three times in 2024/25.
Newcastle’s odds:
- Top 2 – 7/1
- Top 4 – 1/4
- Top 6 – 1/25
Isak most likely to catch Salah
Alexander Isak is twice as likely as Erling Haaland to outscore Mohamed Salah before the end of the season, but with six games to play and six goals to catch it’s certainly an outside possibility.
£1,000 on Salah to finish top goalscorer in fact would only net a £10 profit. Isak is still the favourite to catch him and is considered most likely to finish as top goalscorer when the Egyptian is removed from the equation.
Isak is also considered second most likely to win PFA Player of the Year over Salah, but the bookies have the Liverpool winger winning the award as a foregone conclusion
Isak’s odds:
- Top goalscorer – 50/1 (Salah, 1/100 – Haaland 100/1)
- PFA Player of the Year – 25/1 (Salah 1/25)

Driving seat?
Too many tough games to come, let’s hope the engine doesn’t stall.
If we take something from both Villa and Brighton and beat Chelsea I then think we will be in the driving seat.

As long as we come out with at least a point Tomorrow think 9 points from the remaining 5 games should be enough. If we are talking about catching Aresnal, which is still a big ask as well as we are playing, probably looking at 16 points from the remaining games.
