Ligue 1 star “open” to Newcastle move despite Chelsea interest – L’Equipe

The French league is fast becoming a hotbed for rising talent and electric attacking options.

So it’s no wonder why we, alongside other Premier League clubs, have been linked with a number of top forwards over a move to England this summer.

And now one young Dutchman has expressed an open interest into joining us for next season, though the presence of a European rival could make things tricky…

Emegha ‘open’ to Newcastle move

According to a new report from L’Equipe, we’re one of two clubs hoping to bring young forward Emanuel Emegha to the Premier League.

22-year-old Emegha, currently at RSC Strasbourg, could leave the French side this summer despite being one of their key performers this campaign.

So far this season, he’s scored 13 goals in the league, and has prior Europa League experience during his days at Austrian side Sturm Graz.

L’Equipe’s report touts us as a club seeking the striker’s signature as our plans to bolster our attacking line in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the fact he plays for RSC Strasbourg might make things complicated for us.

Can we beat Chelsea to their ‘own’ player?

The French club are owned by BlueCo, who obviously own our European rivals Chelsea.

The Blues have turned Strasbourg into both a feeder and development club in recent seasons, with the likes of Andrey Santos and Đorđe Petrović both being prepared for a move back to Chelsea by playing in Ligue 1.

L’Equipe notes that Chelsea have already given Emergha a dedicated “career plan”, and in terms of player attributes, he would fit the current Chelsea side like a glove.

Considering our already deep-levels of scouting in Ligue 1, and our ongoing pursuit of Jonathan David from Lille, Emegha could very well be a player too good to miss out on, even if means dealing with BlueCo in negotiations.

  1. Chelsea won’t be able to buy this lad without breaking a UEFA rule.
