This summer feels massive at Newcastle United and a chance we must not miss to kick on as a club.
We’ve just won a trophy, we’ll be back in Europe and it’s vital that our over-achieving squad is boosted after three transfer windows without a major first-team signing.
Thankfully, it looks like investment is coming and a number of positions will be addresses ahead of the 2025/25 campaign, as a new report highlights…
Ambitious summer ahead
The Telegraph have issued an update on Newcastle United’s summer plans, offering hope to supporters eager to see quality additions to Eddie Howe’s side.
North East reporter Luke Edwards reports that our PSR concerns have eased considerably, boosted by January exits for Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, and an ‘ambitious’ recruitment mission is expected.
Paul Mitchell will be looking to land his first major signings since arriving as our new sporting director last summer and it’s believed we have prioritised a right-sided centre-back, right winger and goalkeeper.
On top of this, a striker is also wanted to compete with Alexander Isak, which feels absolutely necessary given our additional games in Europe.
Not only that, current back-up options Callum Wilson – 33 and out of contract this summer – and Will Osula – tipped to depart on loan – may not be ready to step in should Isak burn out or suffer an injury next season.
Who could arrive?
Looking at the four positions mentioned, we’ve already seen a number of names linked.
In goal, Burnley’s James Trafford is clearly a target but it’s no guarantee now the Clarets have been promoted. Has the price gone up? Are other clubs now in the mix following his superb season in the Championship?
At centre-back, Marc Guehi is sneaking back into the conversation after our previous bids, with a cut-price deal something we may explore now he’s approaching the last 12 months of his contract. Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is also wanted, but there’ll be huge competition with a £50m release clause attached.
On the right wing, Bryan Mbeumo seems to be the go-to name when you speak to Newcastle fans. The club have watched him, it seems, and our bound to like him after another superb season. However, Brentford have every right to demand a huge fee and there’ll be any number of clubs keen after 18 goals in 33 Premier League outings this term.
Up top, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap could be a superb signing at his £30m relegation release clause. He’s 22, has 12 goals in a poor side this season, offers something totally different to Isak and is another exciting England Under-21 talent Eddie Howe could help take to the next level.

Believe we will sign players off the radar, all the players mentioned will be too expensive and command massive wages. At best we may get one of those.
The spends will also be tailored to wether we qualify for Champions League or not which is certainly no given.
I think that Chelsea having to play both Forest and ourselves will be the big influencer along with Villa’s very winnable games.

Burn had delap in his pocket .. and Guei has been very average and in the last two games was responsible for two mistakes that resulted in goals ., look to Europe and South America for motivated hungry players cheaper than over rated English prem players
