In the last few weeks alone, we’ve seen numerous links begin to emerge connecting Newcastle with moves for talent across Europe, particularly in France and Italy.
From Dusan Vlahovic to Jonathan David, we seem set on strengthening our squad without paying premium costs attached to players already in England.
And if a recent report is to be believed, we’re set for talks with a European giant over bringing a former Premier League star back to England.
Newcastle linked with Luiz
According to fresh reports emerging from Italy, Newcastle want to sit down with Juventus over a potential move for ex-Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
Coming courtesy of TVPlay, it’s claimed we’re set to meet with Juventus’ Sporting Director Cristiano Guintoli over a potential summer move for the Brazilian.
Luiz is said to have admirers at St James’ Park, but we face competition from top-five rivals Nottingham Forest over the player’s signature.
The 26-year-old has endured a torrid time in Turin, having only departed from Aston Villa a year ago, and hasn’t quite reached the lofty standards we saw of him in Unai Emery’s side.
That isn’t to say that Douglas Luiz wouldn’t be an exceptional signing for us. Another strong midfielder would provide some much needed depth, particularly with Joelinton’s current injury battles, and the potential departures of Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff.

Tonali to Juve a non-starter
Italian media has been speculating for weeks that Sandro Tonali is the No.1 target for Juventus, who seem to be doing all they can to bring the maestro back to his home country.
Guintoli is thought to be a big fan, but it was reported by The Telegraph this week that Tonali has no interest in returning to Serie A anytime soon and is fully committed to the club.
Luke Edwards paints the picture that Tonali wants to repay the faith and support the club and fans showed him throughout his suspension by staying at the club and fighting for the badge.
Since his return back in August, he’s been instrumental to our success so far this season, and as one of the youngest members in our range of midfield options, he’ll most definitely be part of plans for the foreseeable future.
So with Juve being a side in need of raising funds for their own transfer activity this summer, all signs point to any deal just being a straight signing from us.
