Newcastle haven’t been able to truly flex their financial muscles for close to two years, but all that could be about to change.
With European football on the horizon and in a strong position regarding PSR, some of the Premier League’s most in-demand players could be on their way to Tyneside this summer.
One key target appears to be Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who Eddie Howe and the club’s recruitment team are thought to be huge fans of.
But how much will he cost, will Brentford sell and who else is in the mix to sign the 25-year-old Cameroonian?
Bryan Mbeumo update.
Brentford will listen to offers for Bryan Mbeumo this summer – but he won’t come cheap and there are four clubs tracking him closely.
Sky Sports report that the Bees will allow the winger to leave if their £60m-plus valuation is met, accepting he has earned the right to secure a big move after 18 goals and six assists so far this season.
It’s believed that Newcastle have been tracking the player closely along with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, showing the level of competition we may be up against.
Mbeumo has two years left on his current deal, leaving Brentford in a healthy position but at a point where his value will never be higher, making a summer sale more likely.
With both Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank and captain Christian Norgaard both hinting in recent weeks that Mbeumo’s time in West London could be coming to an end, this is a transfer battle Newcastle would do very well to win this summer.
Champions League race vital?
Heading into the final three games of the season our mission is clear; make sure of a top-five finish and secure that place in next season’s Champions League.
Doing that would not only be huge to keep our star men and boost the club’s finances, but also attract some of our top targets to St James’ Park.
Mbeumo will have plenty of offers this summer, so the offer of Champions League football could be the difference; not just financially but to the appeal of joining us ahead of the 2025/25 season.
Whilst Brentford are in a comfortable financial position compared to other teams around them, the appeal of European football and elevating Mbeumo to the next level could be something neither the club nor the player can turn down.

He would be my top target this summer.
Hes proven PL quality and would put our attack up there with Liverpool imo – Gordon, Barnes, Isak, Murphy & Mbeumo 🤯.
With a midfield of Joelinton, Bruno & Tonali behind them 🤯.
We’d maybe be 3 or 4 players off a squad to challenge for the title imo.
