Jacob Murphy closing in on two major rewards after incredible Newcastle form?

Jacob Murphy’s dream season at Newcastle United could be about to get even better.

The winger delivered his 20th goal involvement of the league season on Sunday, setting up Sandro Tonali’s opener with a lovely cross in a 2-0 win over Chelsea.

That has been a theme this season, with only two former Mags (Nobby Solano and Andy Cole) assisting more than his 12 in a single Premier League campaign.

His improvement under Eddie Howe has been incredible and it seems two well-deserved rewards may be heading his way.

Murphy’s rise set to continue?

According to Mark Douglas at the i, Jacob Murphy could be heading towards a new deal – and a potential England call-up.

He reports that the 30-year-old will remain a big part of Eddie Howe’s squad next season, with the club considering new terms for the boyhood Toon fan to reward what has been a sensational season.

Newcastle are ‘actively targeting’ another right-winger, with Bryan Mbeumo heavily linked in recent weeks, but Murphy has earned a new contract and the vital squad role he now takes up.

The i reveal that Murphy has recently switched agents to the Wasserman group, who also look after Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, and he could follow a similar trajectory, albeit later in this career as Thomas Tuchel considers Murphy for a potential England call-up.

Douglas reports that Murphy’s form has left him ‘in the thinking’ of the new Three Lions coach, who recently handed fellow Mag Dan Burn his first cap.

Tuchel will soon announce his squad for upcoming games against Andorra and Senegal in June, where Murphy will be hoping for a call-up alongside the likes of Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Pope and Burn.

Murphy’s brilliant numbers

Alongside a PFA player of the month award for April, Murphy is now up to 23 goal contributions in all competitions.

Had Newcastle signed a new, flashy right-winger last summer and been told he will deliver nine goals and 14 assists, you’d have believed a top class operator had arrived as a much-needed upgrade on Miguel Almiron.

Instead, Murphy has been that man. We’ll sign another option this summer and rightly so, but his turnaround under Howe is quite incredible and the reward for never giving up on his dream at Newcastle United.
