No sooner had Sandro Tonali arrived at St James’ Park, the Italian media were linking him with a move away.
The reports have been relentless and some of them desperate, especially when the player himself and his agent have regularly said that he’s happy on Tyneside and has no plans to leave anytime soon.
However, the latest claims from Italy may be the most laughable yet, as a Premier League club is apparently eyeing up the Italian’s signature…
Tonali to Man Utd? Dream on
According to Corriere dello Sport, Man Utd are keen to bring Sandro Tonali to Old Trafford this summer.
They report that the Red Devils are a ‘big contender’ and prepared to compete with Juventus for the former AC Milan star in a potential €100m (£85m) deal.
Now, I’m sure certain clubs will be keen on our midfield maestro, who has genuinely looked like one of the top No 6s on the planet over the past five months.
Interest is inevitable, as we’ve accepted following Man City’s link to Tino Livramento earlier today, but there are two key factors to consider here.
1) Man Utd are 16th in the Premier League and currently being run like a circus of a club. And 2) Tonali and his camp have made it pretty clear that he’s not going back to Italy anytime soon, so the persistent links with Serie A clubs really need to stop.
World class Tonali going nowhere
Newcastle are a club on the up and heading into the summer with every intention to strengthen our squad; not weaken it by selling to a ‘big six’ rival who are lucky not to have been in a relegation battle this season.
Tonali’s switch to the base of our midfield three has been an inspired move by Eddie Howe, where he’s not only dominated in duels, protected our back four and showed incredible energy from first minute to last, but also contributed to nine goals.
Sunday’s early strike against Chelsea was his sixth of the season along with three assists, seeing him become one of the top all-round midfielders on the Premier League.
He is arguably the driving force behind this current side and is going nowhere this summer, especially not to Man Utd; whether they win the Europa League or not!

Embarrassing?
So not laughable or pathetic (the usual adjectives used when someone on this site wants to look down on someone else’s opinion).
You are actually arguing against the proposal that Man U are interested in him.
I don’t see why that is “embarrassing”?

It’s a compliment to how far Newcastle have come that there is all this speculation about the players .. need to get used to it as it will only increase with success .. virtually all of it is click bait nonsense from the media
