Newcastle set to launch major moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi – Report

It looks like Newcastle United plan to waste no time in the early stages of a crucial summer transfer window on Tyneside.

Paul Mitchell may be departing, but that won’t stop Eddie Howe’s push for new signings as we plan to bring in at least four major signings.

Two priority positions identified are a right winger and centre-back, and it seems the club have top targets in mind already.

Mbeumo and Guehi moved planned

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle look set to step up their attempts to sign both Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi.

North East reporter Luke Edwards reveals that both have been identified as leading targets and Newcastle are ‘good to go’, having decided on our available budget after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

The club are keen to strike early this summer and it seems that bids for both are imminent.

Starting with Mbeumo, the Brentford winger is a long term target and it’s believed a fee in the region of £50-60m could be enough, with Newcastle hoping to capitalise on the fact Man Utd – a rival bidder linked this week – are focusing their attentions on wrapping up a deal for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.

As for Guehi, The Telegraph report that Howe is eager to see the centre-back become our first summer signing, with Newcastle keen to strike a compromise with Crystal Palace after refusing to pay their £65m price tag last summer.

The 24-year-old is now out of contract next summer, which should lower his price tag, but a deal won’t be simple now the Eagles’ FA Cup win has seen them qualify for the Europa League next season.

Mitchell wants to sign off in style

The good news is that it’s very much ‘business as usual’ at Newcastle, reports Edwards, suggesting the club have not been destabilised by news of Paul Mitchell’s departure next month.

In fact, The Telegraph report that Mitchell is determined to sign off with a major arrival in the coming weeks, having failed to bring in a first team addition of real significance last summer.

Guehi or Mbeumo would be a superb start to a huge summer, with both almost ideal candidates to fill two positions we’ve been attempting to strength for several windows now.

  1. Not convinced on Guehi to be honest, certainly not for what Palace were asking. Happy to be proved wrong though.
