It’s finally official. Newcastle United have confirmed that Antonio Cordero will sign on July 1st when his contract at Malaga expires.
Paul Mitchell oversaw a deal and has finally got his man, with our departing sporting director revealing that Newcastle beat clubs in Spain and ‘across Europe’ to land the 18-year-old wide man.
The winger, who is predominantly left-sided but can play down both flanks, is expected to go out on loan ahead of the 2025/26 season, with Ajax and a couple of La Liga sides already linked.
Here’s a closer look at the talented teenager, with the clip below showing him in action with LaLiga2 side Malaga over the past year:
Cordero’s message to fans
During a short announcement video for NUFC TV, Cordero admitted he is here to win trophies – but realises the hard work starts now.
He believes his biggest strengths lie in his ability to shoot, score, create goals and produce that ‘final pass’, having delivered 16 goal involvements in 60 senior outings at Malaga; an impressive return at the age of 18.
“It’s truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure,” Cordero also told the club’s official website. “I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it.
“It’s a big step, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m happy to do it and have a great desire to get going already.”
