‘Done deal’ – Sky Sports reveal €5m move that could be great news for Newcastle United

As we approach July and the start of a new three-year PSR cycle, we could see transfer business pick up over the next few weeks across the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that we are in talks with Burnley and negotiating a fee for James Trafford, hinting that discussions are due to ‘accelerate’ next week as a deal can happen from July.

If that’s true and a breakthrough is on the cards, Burnley would be wise to sign up a potential replacement, and they may have just found one.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Scott Parker’s side have now struck a €5m deal to bring in German Under-20 international Alex Weiss from Bundesliga 2 side Karlsruhe SC.

Sky Germany’s chief reporter Florian Plettenberg reports that this is now a ‘done deal’, revealing that Burnley consider the 21-year-old as a big talent who has the potential to become their ‘long-term number one.’

Considering Trafford is only a year older, this suggests the newly-promoted side are planning for life without our leading goalkeeper target, despite some suggestions that Weiss has been brought in to compete with the England talent.

This does not mean Trafford to Newcastle is done or imminent, but it feels like a positive sign that discussions are heading in the right direction and suggests Burnley know they’ll be losing their current No 1 at some stage this summer.
