Spurs identify £60m Newcastle target as priority signing – Report

Newcastle may be closing in on the signing of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, but there are at least three outfield signings still wanted by Eddi Howe this summer.

Along with a centre-back, we are in need of a right winger and versatile forward, with Joao Pedro targeted for the latter role before Chelsea swooped in and agreed a deal for the Brighton star yesterday.

One player who can play in both of those attacking positions is West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus.

Sky Sports recently reported that the Ghanaian was one of three options we could explore if a deal can’t be agreed for Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, while The Telegraph and The Athletic report that Kudus has been discussed in recruitment meetings on Tyneside.

He could be ‘one to watch’ if we are forced to move on from Elanga, but it seems we’ll face more Premier League competition should we turn our attention to the Hammers star.

The Telegraph report that Spurs have now identified Kudus as a ‘primary target’ this summer, with the 24-year-old targeted now West Ham look ready to sell the former Ajax star to raise funds.

Jacob Steinberg at The Guardian claims that Chelsea are also in the mix (of course they are!), and join talkSPORT in reporting that £60m could be enough to land the versatile attacker.

After missing out on Pedro to a London club just last weekend, will be get embroiled in a potential move for Kudus or look elsewhere?

He ticks boxes as a young, hugely talented attacker who can play out wide or centrally, also having previous Premier League experience.

However, it does feel like we should look to Europe, trust our scouting team and avoid another public bidding war with two ‘big six’ rivals, as good as Kudus could be with the right coaching.

  1. All of the top clubs have started to do their transfer business, but not Tottenham??? Tottenham need to bring 5 new players into the club, after moving 6 players out. Still need to get Richarlison, Bissouma and if Son is not staying, out of the door. Simons, Frendup, Kalimuendo, Kudas and Dibling might all be good buys, but we need to start getting players in, rather than just talking about them. Walker Peters and Cirkin could be 2 Homegrown players brought into the club and they, Walker Peters would be a free, whilst Cirkin wouldn’t cost a fortune. Need to get players into the club Now.
