Newcastle forward linked with surprise Burnley move along with former Toon target

Premier League newboys Burnley are thought to be eyeing up two forwards of potential interest to Newcastle United fans.

Scott Parker’s side have moved early in the transfer window as they aim to break the trend of sides promoted from the Championship suffering an immediate return to the second tier.

They have so far brought in Lazio winger Loum Tchaouna, along with defender Axel Tuanzebe, Feyenoord left-back Quilindschy Hartman and German goalkeeper Max Weiss

But it’s believed a current (or former?) Mag and previous striker target are the latest duo on Parker’s radar ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Two strikers on Burnley’s radar?

According to The Telegraph, Burnley are weighing up summer moves for Callum Wilson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

33-year-old Wilson’s contract with us has now technically expired, though the club are yet to make an official announcement confirming his future, meaning the Lancashire-based side could acquire the England international on a free transfer.

The report in the national newspaper claims Burnley are exploring the free agent market, with recently released Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy both options being explored.

Calvert-Lewin was once a key target of Eddie Howe’s, but recent reports suggest we are no longer looking to sign the 27-year-old after his recent struggle for goals and game time a Everton.

No negotiation with Newcastle would be needed should Wilson remain available on a free, but this could see the striker head in the opposition direction to Toon-bound goalkeeper James Trafford, who is thought to be close to sealing a move.

The right time for Wilson to go

Callum Wilson appeared to wave an emotional goodbye to Newcastle fans after our final game of the season against Everton.

There has been some confusion if the ex-Bournemouth man is departing, with Wilson now appearing in the squad list on the club site wearing next season’s home kit after previously being removed.

Wilson struggled last season, to put things lightly, and if we sign another forward his minutes would be incredibly scarce next season if he was still a Newcastle player.

Therefore, a move would make sense for all parties. He will want minutes, while we will need someone who has reliable output – and a decent fitness record.

Leeds and Everton have also been linked with Wilson should he seek minutes in the top tier. Wrexham have also been touted as a possible destination after their promotion to the Championship.
