Are you still waiting for Anthony Elanga? Well, proving the theory that Women get things done quicker and with no fuss, here’s another signing confirmed and announced by Wor Lasses.
Another great addition to Becky Langley’s 2025/26 promotion chasing squad, which could be followed by a real statement signing and ‘blockbuster’ deal, as we revealed yesterday.
Welcome Molly Pike from Southampton, making the same journey that Jemma Purfield has and landing on Tyneside to resume acquaintances with her former team mate. The 24-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Saints making 49 appearances in all competitions.
Pike scored 13 times on the South Coast, winning the goal of the season award on two occasions, one of which was for a strike against the Magpies in February.
She spent two years with Leicester in the Barclays Women’s Super League prior to her move to Southampton, featuring 46 times as the Foxes maintained their position in the top flight.
Having come through Chelsea’s academy, scoring 14 goals in 17 appearances in her last season there, she signed her first professional contract at Everton. On Merseyside she made 19 appearances, before spending the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Bristol City.
The midfielder has also represented England at youth level, most recently featuring 13 times for the Under-23s.
On joining the club, Pike said: “I’m super excited! I’ve heard so much about the club and the city, and I just can’t wait to get going.
“It was definitely the ambition of the club and the direction in which it’s heading, because I want to be a part of that, I want to be able to build a legacy here.”
Manager Becky Langley said: “Molly is fast and dynamic, I love her tenacity to get in behind, and she can play in a number of positions across midfield and in attack.
“She knows how to score goals and get assists at this level. She brings good experience from both the WSL and WSL2 and we are really excited to start working with her.”
Ex-Arsenal and Villa star set to follow?
So two in and is the ‘blockbuster’ on its way as well? It’s been widely reported that ex-Lioness Jordan Nobbs has agreed a deal to sign for Newcastle, with TalkSPORT and The Guardian both going public on this in the last 24 hours.
Nobbs left Aston Villa at the end of last season after two years with the Midlands side and sent a message saying that it was time for a new chapter in her career.
Many NUFC Women fans jumped at her statement and immediately hoped and speculated that she might become a Magpie.
Now it seems that the rumours may all be true as ‘advanced talks’ are reported, and if it is what a coup this would be Wor Lasses.
Nobbs is a legend of the game and still only 32 years old. Capped 71 times for England she is the Women’s Super League record appearance holder with 208 games.
She’s also the only player in history to have scored in every single season of the WSL and has some CV when you look it up. Starting her career at Middlesbrough and spending some time with The Mackems the Stockton born player may well be returning home.
Let’s hope so as she would be a phenomenal addition to the squad and who knows, a potential new Skipper for the side following the departure of Amber-Keegan Stobbs to Durham Women F.C.
