Newcastle United took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier today.
After pre-season training began on Monday, with everyone reporting back aside from our international stars, two separate Newcastle XIs got 45 minutes each as we went on to beat Carlisle 4-0 at our Benton base.
Newcastle’s goals came from Leeds-linked Sean Longstaff, fit-again Joelinton, Jacob Murphy and under-21 striker Ben Parkinson, with new signing Anthony Elanga watching on from the sidelines, as a match report reveals.
Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes grabbed assists for two of our four goals, and we saw some much-needed minutes for Sven Botman and Lewis Miley.
A few young talents also featured in Leo Shahar (RB), Trevan Sanusi (LW), Travis Hernes (CM), Alex Murphy (LCB) and Sean Neave (ST), along with returning QPR and MK Dons loanees Harrison Ashby (RB) and Joe White (CB)

1st half XI: Pope – Shahar, Lascelles, A Murphy, Trippier – Longstaff, Miley, Willock – Osula, Neave, Sanusi.
2nd half XI: Ruddy – Ashby, Schar, Botman, Targett – White, Hernes, Joelinton – J Murphy, Parkinson, Barnes.
Next up for the squad is a trip to Austria next week for a short training camp, followed by a clash with Celtic in Glasgow on Saturday 19th July.
After that comes a trip across Asia to play Arsenal, Spurs and a K-League XI, before we return for the Sela Cup weekend, featuring games against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid at St James’ Park on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th August.
