Having officially completed his £52m move from Nottingham Forest on Friday night, it looks like Anthony Elanga has already settled in very well at Newcastle United.
The club has released footage following Elanga on his first day on Tyneside, giving us a glimpse into just how awe struck the Swedish international looks to be by the move.
Clearly a popular figure amongst his new teammates, and looking to have already made a positive impression on the coaching team and other staff members, fans will no doubt take to Elanga very quickly.
Arriving on Tyneside as our new signing
Landing at Newcastle airport earlier this week, having completed the formalities of his move, footage shows just how excited Elanga is to be the newest name in black and white.
“Honestly I believe this is the right choice for me. I just knew, soon as I found out, I knew.”
“Having played against them, knowing the lads, and obviously speaking to the gaffer.”
“Whenever I’ve been asked a question like ‘Where the best atmosphere is?’ It’s always been St James’ Park. Especially if they’re against you, it’s like being suffocated. And the loud music they play before the game as well, that got me you know, it got into my head!”
The 23-year-old even jokes about one particular thing he liked about us: our new home kit: “I don’t think you understand how long I’ve been waiting to have long sleeve shirts. Don’t get me started! Long sleeve shirts, it’s my favourite thing.”
Already a popular presence off the pitch
From the moment he first stepped into our facilities, you can immediately tell that Anthony Elanga will have been a popular signing amongst our current players.
Enough has been said about his close friendship with “little brother” Will Osula, as the two Scandinavians embraced when seeing each other.
But Elanga has also shown how close he is with Sven Botman, owing to the time the two trained together in Portugal, and compatriot Emil Krafth.
One particularly heartwarming moment from the club’s video is Jason Tindall introducing Elanga to Jamaal Lascelles, still training with the club despite having not appeared since early 2024.
It’s a testament to Lascelles’ reputation that Tindall jokingly says “Any one gives you any problems, just go see this man!” in the presence of the club-captain.
With our first fixture of pre-season taking place next Saturday, the Adidas Cup game against Celtic in Glasgow, it looks like the winger will have no problem getting to know his new teammates and settling in in time for the big game.
