Newcastle in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike – Major update on Monday from Fabrizio Romano

When Hugo Ekitike links re-emerged over the past week, many Newcastle United fans were excited but skeptical.

Keeping Alexander Isak and adding Ekitike to our attack would be quite a statement, and sounds like Newcastle really are making a big push for the long-term target who almost signed from  Reims back in 2022.

After The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards revealed on Saturday that the club are in contact with Ekitike’s camp over a potential move, Fabrizio Romano has just issued a promising update on his Youtube channel.

Romano states that Newcastle are now “working on the deal” as we speak with the player and current club Eintracht Frankfurt, claiming the 23-year-old Frenchman is now a “top target” now we missed out on Joao Pedro to Chelsea.

He insists that it’s not an easy deal to complete, whether that’s striking a deal with Frankfurt, convincing the player to sign or fighting off competition from rivals, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd all showing interest in the striker who bagged 22 goals and 12 assists in Germany last season.

However, Romano reports that we are pushing to complete what would be a real statement signing, with the club feeling he is “perfect” for Eddie Howe in terms of his potential and ability to add goals to our attack ahead of our return to the Champions League.

  1. Would like us to sign him as long as we can get a top class centre half in as well, like Scalvini from Atalanta, we also need cover at left back, a keeper and cover in the middle, especially if we sell Longstaff and willock, our squad is poor after our first 11 so we really need to strengthen the depth and hopefully bring some of the young academy players through this season as well.

  2. Don’t agree with that entirely.
Murphy, Barnes Willock, Trippier, Schar or Burn, Miley and Dubravka aren’t exactly ‘poor’ players.
With these and even better new players on the bench, next season could be the one we’ve always waited for.

If we are to compete on 4 fronts – we really need a ball playing keeper, another CB, an upgrade on Longstaff/Willock and a forward

  4. Both French reporter Julian Lauren’s and David ornstein( the athletic) are reporting that Hugo’s agent Ali Bharat is in Newcastle to finalise a deal worth £69.5 million

Scalvini is at £40/ 50 million and trafford at £30 million .. maybe that Gordon is on his way out ?.. with hall and botman back fully fit and joelinton healed Newcastle look a formidable team
