Newcastle launch €70m+ bid to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike

It’s all happening, and it feels just like those Alexander Isak claims that all came out of the blue before we signed the Swede from Real Sociedad in August 2022.

Story after story is emerging on Newcastle’s push to sign Hugo Ekitike, and a major update has just landed from Fabrizio Romano after Sky Sports revealed earlier that the club are speaking to the player’s camp to reach an agreement.

A Monday tea-time exclusive from Romano, he reveals that Newcastle have now launched a formal bid for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

It’s believed our offer is in excess of the €70m bid Frankfurt have already received from an unnamed club this summer, showing we are serious about getting this one done ASAP.

Writing on X, he’s said: ‘Newcastle submitted an official bid today to Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike!

‘Proposal higher than €70m previously offered by another club this summer with Newcastle pushing to get the deal done. Negotiations underway.’

  1. Ekitiki has a release clause of 100m euro ( £86m ) and Scalvini has a price tag of £43m. Add on the £52m we paid for Elanga and that is this years transfer budget gone.
Our only sale is Kelly and so our only income from sales is £4m .( Kelly went on loan for £3m followed by a permanent move on 1 july for £12m to be paid over three years with a further £5m in add-ons.)
Looks like we will not be able to sign anyone else unless we are paying for Ekitike and /or Scalvini in annual instalments – or lining up a big sale !
Nevertheless I am loving the clubs’ ambition and looking forward to next season.

A lot of things not correct in your comment. We don’t know if Ekitike even has a release clause, it’s just a rumour. Scalvini would cost considerably more than £43m. We have no idea how much the transfer budget actually is. We also sold Almiron. Lastly, that’s not how transfers work. In a PSR world, if we sell a player for £10m that allows us to replace him with a £50m player, spread over 5 years. It is also doesn’t take into consideration allowed losses etc.
