WATCH: Elanga’s wondergoal vs Newcastle U18s – Footage resurfaces after £55m move

Anthony Elanga has been quite prolific when he’s played against us in the past for both Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

With that in mind, it will be a very welcome sight to not see him line up for the opposition next season, especially when you consider the torrid time he gave Dan Burn and Lewis Hall in recent trips to St James’ Park.

Well before then, however, the Swede has recounted a memory of playing against Newcastle’s U18s way back in 2019.

In that, he produced a moment of sheer brilliance that has stuck with him all these years later, and you can see why!

“Having played against them, funnily enough, when I’m playing against Newcastle I want to do well,” Elanga has said since arriving on Tyneside.

“I remember my first ever game was an U-18s game, I don’t know if you guys remember, I scored a solo goal for the U-18s against Newcastle.”

“I’ve always had this thing for Newcastle, always wanted to play well against them, and I think looking back on it now, it all makes sense as to why I’m here now.”

“I want to do well for this team, I think it’s an amazing club, an amazing city, I just want to do well here.”

Elanga on playing at St James’ Park

To play at Old Trafford and the City Ground is one thing, but Elanga is truly relishing the opportunity to play at St James’ Park week in and week out.

“As an opposition player, going to St James’ Park it’s not easy I’ll say that. But to have the fans now with you, I think that’s gonna make it even better.”

“I’m really looking forward to playing at St James’ Park, really looking forward to putting on the black and white top. It isn’t just a shirt, it isn’t just a job, it’s a responsibility, it’s a privilege.”

On his Champions League football ambitions

We all said it last season, but getting Champions League football looks to have been absolutely imperative in regards to bringing the likes of Elanga to the club.

The winger is looking forward to the occasion, and again remarks just how honoured he is to be able to call himself a member of our team.

“Champions League at St James’ Park. It’s what every kid dreams of,  and it’s gonna be amazing not just for us players, but for the club in general and also the fans.”

“It already feels amazing. I’ve had the feeling of being an opposition player, it’s not the same but it’s kind of the same. But like I say, wearing this is a privilege and an honour. I’m really excited to be part of this team, and to call myself a Newcastle United player.”
