After spending the week talking about strikers, Newcastle United must also consider who will arrive in our pursuit of a new right-sided centre-back.
And with that arrives a Thursday night update and two new names from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, who reveals the ‘three-man shortlist’ Newcastle are currently working on as Eddie Howe turns his focus to defensive recruits.
The North East reporter reveals that, alongside Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini, who we retain a ‘keen interest’ in the club are also considering an approach for Juventus’ versatile defender Nicolo Savona.
Alongside the young Italian duo, Downie reveals that Valencia’s Cesar Tarrega is also being discussed as an option we may pursue, with the Spaniard recently starring at the U21 Euros.
Savona, 22, stands 6ft 4′ and can play in a few roles, playing at centre-back, left-back and right-back for Serie A giants Juventus last season.
Tarrega is a 23-year-old centre-back who has been impressing with Valencia in La Liga. While no prices are mentioned in Downie’s update, the 6ft 4′ Spaniard is likely to be the cheapest option out of the three.
