Newcastle release emotional video as Howe and Burn say goodbye to Sean Longstaff

After 214 senior appearances, Sean Longstaff has finally said goodbye to Newcastle United.

The midfielder has officially moved to Leeds United, as part of a deal worth £15m (£12m plus £3m in add-ons).

Having seen his place in the midfield left uncertain with the excellent form of our current options, Longstaff leaves Tyneside as a modern cult hero who was committed to making sure we still got money for him rather than depart on a free next year.

A popular figure amongst fans and teammates alike, the club has released an emotional video saying goodbye to the local lad.

Newcastle’s tribute to local hero Longstaff.

In a short video released on the club’s socials, Dan Burn and Eddie Howe express their sadness concerning Longstaff’s departure.

It’s a brilliant and emotional video (watch below) that sums up what a memorable few years it’s been for the local lad.

Recounting that 4-1 win against PSG, in which the pair both found the back of the net, Burn remarks “We’ll always be the Geordies who scored in the Champions League.”

“He’ll be a massive miss around the place. You can normally hear his laugh the second that you come into the training ground. He’s a huge personality here, he’s loved by everyone.”

Burn sums up Longstaff’s career for his boyhood club quite perfectly: “There’ll not be many local lads that have managed that to live the dream like that.”

An engine in the heart of the midfield with an unbeatable attitude, Howe had big praise for the 27-year-old too.

“He’s given so much and done so much for the football club. Losing Sean’s a tough one, because you know he’s got the club’s best interest in his blood.”

An underappreciated Geordie who always gave his all and lived the dream, through the good and bad times on Tyneside.

All the best Sean, thank you for everything and good luck at Leeds.
