Wissa walks out on Brentford as Newcastle push to beat Spurs and Nottingham Forest

A big update has emerged this afternoon on Newcastle United’s striker search.

It was revealed last week that we were exploring a deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, with David Ornstein and BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel reporting on our efforts to sign the 28-year-old, now Hugo Ekitike is Liverpool-bound.

L’Equipe reported earlier that Newcastle are ‘advancing’ in our pursuit of the Bees striker, and perhaps the most significant update yet has just dropped from the BBC.

Writing for BBC Sport in the last few moments, Sami Mokbel has exclusively revealed that Wissa has just left Brentford’s training camp in Portugal due to uncertainty over his future.

It’s believed the Congo international will now hold talks with Bees director of football Phil Giles (who is ironically a Geordie and big Newcastle fan), with Wissa fully aware of the fact Newcastle, Spurs and Nottingham Forest are all trying to sign him.

The BBC also state that Newcastle’s interest in Wissa has intensified over the past 48 hours, adding that personal terms would not be a problem for Newcastle or Spurs.

Both are in the UEFA Champions League next season, while Forest would be able to offer the former Lorient forward a chance to play in the Europa League after Crystal Palace were demoted to the Europa Conference League.

Newcastle are clearly pushing to land the striker, who scored 20 goals last season, but Spurs could also tempt the Brentford star now former boss Thomas Frank has taken over at the North London club.

  1. I’d be amazed if he didn’t go to Tottenham, in the Champions League and geographically
    with former boss at Spurs.

  2. As a Brentford fan, if he’s playing up and unsettling the squad then let him go, he’s not worth it. He seems to have forgotten how Brentford supported him when they signed him after the acid attack and how they stood by the deal they made with his club.
