Yoane Wissa update – Positive news for Newcastle in bid to beat Spurs and Forest

Some updates have arrived on Newcastle United’s ongoing pursuit of Yoane Wissa.

The Brentford striker appears to be the new forward in focus after failed attempts to land Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike over the past six weeks.

Yesterday, we brought you news from David Ornstein that our initial £25m bid had been rejected, but it seems the club are determined to strike a deal quickly and confident the player wants to sign; although we have heard this before!

The Mail’s Craig Hope reported last night that a fee in the region of £30m should be enough to strike a deal, and he’s added to that today with an update on X.

Hope states that Newcastle are back in talks today and pushing to strike a deal now, as opposed to ‘incremental bids’ that would see another public saga play out from day to day.

Newcastle are ‘confident’ a deal will happen and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also strengthened that belief today, revealing that Wissa is keen on the project on Tyneside and eager to play in the Champions League.

A second bid is imminent, as Sky’s Keith Downie revealed last night, and it does seem like Newcastle are putting a lot into this one to make up for previous misses in the market.

With Spurs and Nottingham Forest also keen, hopefully our second bid is a good but fair one that allows Wissa to join ahead of our trip to Asia later this week, with the 28-year-old leaving Brentford’s training camp and expected to agree personal terms without any issues.

Wissa scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, matching Man City’s Erling Haaland and our very own Alexander Isak for non-penalty goals in a superb campaign for the Bees.
