Alexander Isak Hands Expresses Desire to Explore Options Away from Newcastle

Some breaking news to bring you, unfortunately, it’s not welcome news for Newcastle United. In the last few hours, it has been reported that Alexander Isak has expressed his desire to leave the club and explore other options away from St James’ Park this summer.

Liverpool are odds-on favourites to sign Newcastle star Alexander Isak after news of the striker’s desire to leave the Tyneside club. The Reds are priced as short as 4/7 to sign the Sweden international, according to the best UK betting sites with a welcome bonus. It remains to be seen if Liverpool can make this offer, as they have just signed Hugo Ekitike for big money from Frankfurt.

Before Liverpool bagged their new star man, they enquired about Isak to see if he was available for around £120 million. AN offer like this may well tempt Toon to let Isak go, of course, but after making such a recent signing in the same position, the mersyside outfit may not be willing to pay such a high fee now, as the Swedish hitman has now expressed a desire to leave.

What we know so far

Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United remains uncertain, with the striker and his representatives currently focused on interest from Liverpool rather than discussing a new contract. The 25-year-old has three years remaining on his existing deal, and while Newcastle CEO Darren Eales had indicated in March that fresh terms would be addressed after the season, talks have yet to begin.

Liverpool, now under the management of Arne Slot, has shown strong interest in signing Isak this summer. The Swedish international has reportedly expressed a desire to explore transfer options during the window, and a bid in the region of £150 million could persuade Newcastle to part ways with one of their most valuable players.

Newcastle’s ownership and manager Eddie Howe remain keen to retain Isak and would prefer to extend his contract. However, they may consider a transfer in 2026 if the striker opts not to commit long-term. Any deal this summer would likely surpass the current British transfer record of £116 million, set by Liverpool’s recent signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Isak, who has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle, missed the recent 4–0 friendly defeat to Celtic with a minor thigh injury. Amid the growing transfer speculation, he was allowed to return home for recovery and to manage his playing time. Howe expects him to rejoin the squad for their upcoming pre-season tour matches in Singapore and South Korea.

Isak’s combination of clinical finishing and athleticism continues to attract top clubs across Europe, and Newcastle now face a difficult decision as pressure builds both on and off the pitch.

Our Thoughts

Obviously, as Newcastle fans, this is not the news we wanted to hear this morning, but if the player wants to leave and the money is right, I feel no one is bigger than the club. If we invest the money wisely, we will kick on and become bigger and better, like we always do up the Toon.
