The summer transfer window has forced Newcastle United to accept a harsh reality regarding the club’s position in the transfer market.
Because of who our owners are, we’re perceived as being as equally wealthy and have unlimited transfer funds available to us.
That is clearly not the case due to PSR. Hefty price tags attached to Newcastle targets also pose an ongoing challenge, which may only get worse if selling clubs sense our desperation after a tough summer full of setbacks so far.
And now according to a new report, we’ve been quoted a simply extortionate fee for another striker target who will become a major one to watch if our ambitious pursuit of Benjamin Sesko fails…
Newcastle face unreal fee for Jackson
According to the i’s Mark Douglas, Chelsea are quoting clubs a whopping £80m if they want to sign Nicolas Jackson, as the Blues look to balance the books after another window of lavish spending.
Douglas states that we have made an initial approach for the Senegalese striker, but internally value him at ‘closer to £65m’; a similar fee to what we were willing to pay for Hugo Ekitike before Liverpool pounced.
Jackson, alongside Ollie Watkins, was quoted as being a new striker identified as an option should we sell Alexander Isak this summer. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is another option, while Yoane Wissa of Brentford is considered the direct replacement for Callum Wilson, with two strikers potentially needed.
The 24-year-old managed 10 goals and five assists in 30 appearances last season, but as the face of the new project up top? Many fans aren’t convinced and it’s understandable why given his likely cost and tendency to miss chances.
Sesko, Jackson, or someone else for Newcastle?
On the surface, Jackson might be the preferred signing when compared to Benjamin Sesko.
Whilst marginally older, he has the Prem-proven experience that our recruitment team has been looking for in summer targets, and it would be taking an option away from Chelsea in the race for Champions League football next season.
Both players would cost around £70m to buy, but there’s a greater appeal surrounding Sesko: it’s far more of a statement signing, and it’s a player who by current accounts would be keen to join our project rather than buying a Chelsea cast-off.
A move for Ollie Watkins is probably off the cards, as Aston Villa have previously told Manchester United that he’s not for sale this summer, whilst telling them exactly how much they’re asking for Emiliano Martinez: logically, if Villa were willing to sell, they would have named their price by now.

We’re still talking about the made up “Newcastle tax”?
All of the players we were beaten to were bought for the reported price that apparently had this mysterious tax.
Are other clubs paying this tax too?

well it won’t be Jackson and Wissa as we’d lose both to Afcon
Absolutely glorious(Quote)
Jackson is shoite…I would be gutted if we signed him. I don’t think Osula is ready but I would rather play him than Jackson 100%

It comes down to one thing we can’t afford to pay monster wages yet, we will in the future when revenue streams improve/new stadium.
In the mean time the whole saudi tax thing isn’t a reality

I do not want Jackson at all, attitude is lazy and is always getting sent off and then he will be away for weeks at Afcon. Sesko is waaaaaaay better and he will eventually be better than Isak. Jackson is turd on toast so no thanks

I hope Chelsea don’t budge from their valuation of £80 million for Jackson.
Newcastle are wanting close to £150 million for their star man , but how many games does he go before getting injured, then on the treatment table for 3 to 4 weeks . Jackson may not have the finishing qualities of Isaac , but he will give you 100% . The season before last under Potchatino i don’t think he missed a game, he carried the Chelsea front line single handed due to the constant injury issues to Nkuku
Jackson is worth £80 million easily, centre forwards aren’t cheap as we know .

Jackson is a proven goal scorer in the premier league, it is true he was recently sent off in 2 game , but at Chelsea he was a player under pressure, changes were on the horizon, he was trying to hard , being passionate, a player who doesn’t want to leave Chelsea, now he feels he has no other option.
He will definitely score goals where ever he should end up .

Jackson is a very good player. He tackles a lot but can easily get sent off and also his positioning is top notch. The only thing left to work on is his finishing. He holds the ball way too long when he’s one on one with the GK

Please stop writing about the “Newcastle tax” it’s a complete load of *****. We are trying to be clever and low balling every offer. Bigger club then swoops in and pays the going rate leaving us to cry into our breakfast – just pay the extra few mil to show we mean business

Jackson scored 10 goals in the prem league and Chelsea want to offload him.. Jacob Murphy scored more ., Jackson was the 20th best in the prem league golden boot .., over priced inconsistent does not score enough goals .. this is just another fake story picked up from an unknown source in a click bait paper and repeated along with the phantom Newcastle tax .. I have more faith in Hansel and gretel or Peter Pan with most of these once upon a times stories
