Newcastle sign winger and youth captain – Two top youngsters join on Monday

Newcastle United are taking their time to land senior stars, but two youngsters have joined the club’s Academy today.

As we reported in early June, Newcastle have been working on a deal for Alfie Hutchison for some time after a medical was scheduled for fellow Scot Oliver Goodbrand last month.

Today, the club have announced that both promising 16-year-old’s have now officially joined Newcastle’s Academy from Rangers.

Goodbrand is a versatile defender who has captained Scotland at youth level and has risen through Rangers’ youth ranks, starring for their Under-18 side and making his B team debut at the of 15.

Hutchison joined Rangers from Hearts last year and has represented Scotland at Under-15 level, scoring two goals on his Rangers B team debut earlier this year.

Discussing the double deal, Academy Director Steve Harper said: “Alfie and Oliver are two exciting additions to our Academy and we’re really pleased to bring them into the programme.

“They’ve both shown strong potential at club and international level and arrive with a great attitude and a hunger to keep improving.

“Our recruitment team deserve great credit for bringing Alfie and Oliver to the club and we’re confident they’ll benefit from the environment we’ve created here.

“We’re looking forward to seeing them both settle into the group and supporting their development as they take their next steps in the game.”

Welcome to the Toon, Oliver and Alfie!
