Yoane Wissa update as Brentford make big demand before sale to Newcastle

Just over a week ago, it seemed like signing Yoane Wissa was going to be relatively straightforward for Newcastle United.

The forward wanted the move to the North East, even rejecting interest from Spurs and Nottingham Forest, as he sees us as being the club to help achieve his dream of playing in the Champions League.

However, the news on Saturday that Brentford won’t be selling under any circumstance as caused chaos, with our team contemplating walking away, and Wissa now stating he will refuse to join the squad in training moving forward.

Brentford willing to do Wissa deal – but with a catch

But in a new update, it looks like the Bees have one condition they need met if they were to consider selling Wissa to us this summer…

According to the i’s Mark Douglas, Brentford would likely accept £30m+ for Wissa, but are unwilling to sell unless they can secure a replacement first.

Having already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this window, it’s no surprise why Keith Andrews and co. would be keen to avoid a no-goalscorer predicament arising by also selling Wissa to a Premier League rival in us.

Thankfully, Douglas notes that the £50m valuation of Wissa is inaccurate, and that price isn’t holding up any part of the deal: by this account, we’ve done all we can feasibly do in negotiations.

Should Newcastle send a player to Brentford in return?

To try and accelerate the transfer, could Newcastle send someone to the GTech Community Stadium in return?

Whilst we’re not brimming with attacking options at the moment, it may not be the worst idea to loan out Will Osula to the Bees to have him build up some more Premier League minutes and experience.

We also have a wealth of young talent who could potentially sweeten the deal with Brentford: it would be a shame to sell another youngster, but it may be a necessity if it means bringing in a first team name like Wissa.

Ideally, if we can avoid another club becoming involved in the deal, like Brentford enquiring about the availability of a different forward that may delay negotiations with us, then we can speed things up and finally sign our second senior player of the summer.

  1. Something not right here. Wissa stated over the weekend he refuses to play any more for Brentford. Take it he is either bluffing or Brentford are losing the plot. They need the money to get their replacement surely.

  2. Dutch – hardly. They have money in from compo for Frank, they’ve sold their keeper, captain & Mbuemo.

They’ll probably have around £100m sat waiting to spend.

Do you think we sell Isak to Liverpool without lining his replacement first?. There’s no difference really.

  3. Sky reporting we’re in for Ramsdale, I hope not don’t rate the lad.
