Late last night, it was announced that Newcastle had struck a deal for Aaron Ramsdale.
The full details regarding the numbers involved were not clear, but widespread reports confirmed that a loan-to-buy agreement had been reached between Newcastle and Southampton.
It’s a loan with an option to buy next summer, with journalist Ben Jacobs reporting that we’ll pay a £4m loan fee to have the 27-year-old for the season. The option to buy price is not currently clear.
There are some conflicting reports on the player’s medical, however.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reports that the England international will fly to the North East today to undergo medical tests, suggesting he’ll have a medical on Tyneside before joining the squad in the Far East.
Elsewhere, The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder claimed that Ramsdale will hop on a flight to South Korea and complete a medical out in Asia, where Newcastle play a K-League XI at 12pm before facing Spurs on Sunday.
Either way, a deal is agreed and he’s set to arrive as competition for Nick Pope ahead of the 2025/26 season, becoming our second signing of the summer after a £55m move for Anthony Elanga.
It’s a transfer that’s divided the fanbase, but one that has seen the club move on quickly after the disappointment of missing out on James Trafford, who completed a move back to Man City on Tuesday.

I wonder how we managed to get Ramsdale without any of the other top 6 hijacking it. We’ve only got 6 GKs but we probably need to move on some of our CBs and CFs as we’ve been overloaded in those positions for the last 2-3 years

Why is it a transfer that’s divided the “base”…we now have two capped England international goalkeepers in the squad all for £4 million and a one year probation ..

I’m fine with that signing.
Loan to prove himself and £4m isn’t stupid money in the grand scheme of things.

Mike and Sharpy make sense.
