Alexander Isak returns as Howe drops hint on AWOL claims – Another twist on Saturday

More news on the striker front to bring you this afternoon, this time it’s away from Benjamin Sesko – who made his intention to leave clear today – and back to Alexander Isak.

The Swede has spent much of this week training in Spain at former club Real Sociedad, opting to do his own personal fitness camp instead of joining his Toon teammates in our pre-season tour of Asia.

It’s clear the striker wants out and has his eyes set on a move to Liverpool, but the Reds saw a £110m bid fail on Friday as reports followed to suggest they won’t be back with a second offer.

But what now? Well, in an exclusive from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, it’s emerged that Isak is due back on Tyneside TODAY.

His controversial solo trip to Spain is over and he’s returning to the North East – but will he be in training when the players report back from South Korea on Monday morning? That is now the big question.

As Downie explains, Eddie Howe said during this morning’s press conference that he found out via the media that Isak had travelled to his former club after sitting out our tour of Asia, hinting it was not something he agreed on.

Discussing this earlier today, Howe said: “I know where he is, really, through the media. From that perspective, it’s difficult for me to go into any kind of detail. The situation is far from ideal and is quite complex.”

Elsewhere, Newcastle have launched a £69m bid for Sesko and are pushing to land the Slovenian, who has pulled out of RB Leipzig’s friendly with Atalanta today.
