Newcastle’s €80m Benjamin Sesko bid falls short – Leipzig’s demands & Man Utd latest

Another update has arrived in the Benjamin Sesko saga, only this time it’s not quite as encouraging.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Newcastle’s bid worth €80m has ‘fallen short’ of RB Leipzig’s valuation.

He reports that our bid – an initial €75m (£65.5m) up front plus an additional €5m (£4.36m) in potential add-ons – is considered ‘insufficient’ as the Bundesliga club are demanding similar terms, PLUS a sell-on clause.

This indicates that the fee offered is not the major issue, but more the absence of a sell-on clause Leipzig have demanded.

As we know, Newcastle’s pursuit of the Slovenian comes as Liverpool attempts to lure Alexander Isak to Anfield, with the Reds expected to make a record bid for the Swede IF a replacement signs at St James’ Park.

Ornstein reports that Man Utd remain keen on Sesko, as we know, but reveals that the Red Devils are yet to submit a bid of their own.

As for Sesko himself, Ornstein adds that the 6ft 5′ striker remains ‘undecided’ on his next month and is yet to make a firm decision on his future.

This suggests that reports from Slovenia last night were premature, where outlet Delo claimed the forward was set to pick St James’ Park over Old Trafford.

He may still prefer Newcastle – the truth on what he wants is not clear – but first we have to strike a deal with Leipzig, who clearly want a sell-on clause inserted into any deal.

The worry now, aside from Sesko’s preference, is the bidding war Leipzig may be encouraging, with the German’s in a position to push the boundaries knowing both clubs are determined to land the striker.

  1. We MUST walk away from this now, for the love of god, he is NOT worth all that. Go get Wissa now and look elsewhere for a second striker.

  2. Really. What does he know. He didn’t know last night when Slovenian press broke his preference.
    All over the press today.

  3. If the stumbling block is a sell on clause that’s easy fixed – just do the same as we did for Isak.

If we buy Sesko for 75m we should say 10% on any profit of that when we sell.

If we sell him for 100m for example that would only be 2.5m more to Stuggart – that’s not the end of the world 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Where? This is the market and market rates. If it’s 10-15% sell on its worth it if it gets a deal done, we agreed one for Isak after all. Very few top strikers left, Watkins is 29 even if we could get him (doubtful). Samu at Porto maybe but raw and not far off the same amount. After that I’m struggling tbh

Leipzig would never go for that but Stuttgart would be delighted 😁😁😁
    Seriously though Sharpy I agree

  6. The one thing I’m sure about in all this is that if we don’t get Sesko there’s no way Isak can be sold,Wissa is a good player but nowhere near the level needed to replace Isak,in truth we would need both him and Sesko

  7. Why did we not include a sell on clause in the first place, it’s standard for young players for most teams. Sadly we are the minority not even part of our Anderson and Minteh deals now Sesco? Yet Isak deal included it! What a mess. Hwtl

It’s not quite standard, but it’s becoming more usual. The difference with Anderson \ minteh was we were in a massive psr hole and the buyers had us over a barrel. They held all the cards and could simply refuse, I’m sure we asked. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative that most fans have accepted from the biased media that we are the worst the club of all time….but the truth is the deals the club got for those 2 were actually good, in the context of desperate circumstances obviously

Then we keep Isak for another year and go get Wissa as Wilsons replacement. Are we really that desperate we would get mugged off for a 22 year old unproven player . There is a reason Arsenal walked away from buying him. Also it’s clear he wants the Man U move that’s why his agent got that story out about him preferring the Toon last night to draw out a bid from Man U. They are skint though and need to include a player in the deal.🙄
We are STILL waiting for the lad to say where he wants to go, he apparently will let everyone know where he wants to go soon 🤣Hilarious considering there is no choice to make as Man U have not made an official bid yet.
What ever, this window is a joke and it’s on us.

  11. We can’t have Isak as he doesn’t want to be here, no good having a sulking player around the club even for a year, we will get maximum value now so should take it.
Don’t think Sesko is worth the asking price we would just be buying potential imo and despite the drivel in the press recently I still think he doesn’t want to come here.
There are better forwards elsewhere, it was better doing no business at all than watching the current lot trying to get one over the line and the 💩 that goes with it.

He may very well want man u, he may be willing to join either club we just don’t know. No bids have been accepted, sounds like ours is in the final details / close. He can’t actually make a final decision until a bid IS accepted??? Have you forgotten that?? Transfers are complicated. Is there a reason arsenal ‘walked away’ from Isak too? Does that mean that Isak isn’t good enough like sesko isn’t?? Not sure arsenal are the final word on good players…
We will keep Isak only as a last resort. He pulled out of the crucial arsenal game in May with ‘tired muscles’. He has feigned injury in pre season. He has gone to Spain without telling the club. He has disrespected the club, fans and manager who have given him so much. Pure rat is exactly right…wake up

  13. I am well awake thanks, try to counter argue without the passive aggressiveness ,we are all fans here. The whole world knows his preference is Man U, lets be real here.
As for Arsenal, they walked away due to players wage demands and cost. It matters not that Man U haven’t bid yet as he is clearly waiting for it to happen. We will be his second choice without a doubt in my mind and he’ll be off first sniff from a top club just like the rat Isak.
If we have to keep Isak, so be it, the other players won’t be bothered and he’ll have to get on with it or play up and get a bad reputation and put clubs off bidding for him.

  14. Not being aggressive, passive or otherwise, not meant to come across like that. Just wait to see – Man u will pay him more but we must think there’s a chance if we are still there. I understand the negativity but the club is trying to buy the best players it can, in a very hard market with both hands tied behind their back thanks to psr. I honestly think at this point some of our fans would be disappointed if we did buy 2-3 good players in August as they have reverted back to the comfort blanket of ‘everything about the club is terrible’. It’s psychological for some! And not aiming that at you btw

Well I am a glass half empty in all honesty, but I ‘ve had a few knocks in life so……
As you say we just have to wait and see. I want Isak to go if possible, but I am really not sure about Sesko at all. Hopefully if we get him I am made to eat humble pie and he turns into a cracker.
I would like us to get Wissa, pl proven and actually wants to come to us and we do need a Wilson replacement.

We will get wissa mate, just need Brentford to find his replacement like us and the pure rat. I think sesko will be top class….If he has a manager like Eddie to develop him. That’s why I think it’s possible still. I might be kidding myself I know, but hoping he puts his long-term future first
