Some breaking news on Monday morning, with another outgoing on the cards at Newcastle United.
We revealed in an NUFCBlog exclusive yesterday that Martin Dubravka was in discussions to leave the club, having fallen further down the pecking order now Aaron Ramsdale has arrived on a loan-to-buy from Southampton.
The 36-year-old is eager to play regular first-team football and will not settle for a back-up role behind Nick Pope and our new No. 32, Ramsdale, despite signing a new deal on improved terms earlier in the year.
Our exclusive on Sunday noted interest from newly-promoted Burnley, and a report from Sky Sports News on Monday morning indicates that the Clarets are now pushing to land the Slovakian.
Sky Sports report that Burnley have identified Dubravka as a primary target and are in talks to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent deal.
Talks are thought to be ‘progressing well’, with Scott Parker’s side looking to land a new No. 1 after losing former Newcastle United target to Man City last month.
It would be a move that makes sense for all parties. Regular game time for the player and a small fee for Newcastle, who need to slimline a goalkeeping department that currently includes Pope, Ramsdale, Dubravka, Vlachodimos, Gillespie, Ruddy and youngster Max Thompson.

Selling the wrong keeper, should be Pope. Also no idea why we kept both Ruddy and Gillespie who offer training but suck up salary from PSR.

Good luck to the lad, but you move on good time to sell. Personally apart from the ball at his feet, the rest of Pope’s game was a level above. Wouldn’t have won the cup final with Dubravka in goal.Could never understand the sentimental clap trap loser’s mentality towards him, singing we want you to stay against Bromley, wasn’t exactly a MOM performance against Real Madrid are Barcelona in a champions league game.
