Despite finishing 4th and 5th in last season’s Premier League, the gulf between Chelsea and Newcastle United at this very moment feels huge in terms of what each team is capable of doing in the transfer market.
The Blues have brought in a copious amount of new players, and are expecting to clear at least £200m in outgoings by the end of the window.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have been met with frustration at every turn as we’ve missed out on top target after top target, leaving us with only two senior signings so far this summer in Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale.
And, on the subject of Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson is back in the headlines regarding a potential move to St James’ Park should our move for Benjamin Sesko be hijacked by Man Utd.
As of Tuesday tea-time, the Sesko saga is still up in the air, but there is major uncertainty around our £70m bid as the player prepares to make his final decision between Newcastle and Man Utd.
Which brings us to Jackson and Ben Jacobs‘ latest claims on the Senegalese striker, reporting that Newcastle and Chelsea have held ‘club-to-club talks’ over a potential transfer.
Chelsea are ‘open’ to a sale and it’s believed a number of striker targets are under discussions as back-up plans to Sesko, with Porto’s Samu Aghehowa, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and PSG’s Goncalo Ramos also linked.
As for the second striker signing needed to replace Callum Wilson, Jacobs also reports that Brentord’s £30m-rated Yoane Wissa is still pushing to join Eddie Howe’s Mags.
He did train for the Bees today, despite sitting out a weekend friendly with QPR, and it’s hoped his move to Tyneside will go through if and when the West London club land a replacement.
Nicolas Jackson is another name on Newcastle’s list of attacking options and Chelsea are open to a sale.
There have been some initial club-to-club talks already.

Not as far as I know but we will see what happens if we don’t sign another striker. He may well then be advised to put in a request which will probably not be acted on because we wont have time to sign a replacement. As long as it’s not Nicolas Jackson FFS !
