A few updates have arrived this afternoon from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie on potential incomings and outgoings at Newcastle United.
It’s been a busy day so far, with Malick Thiaw on Tyneside for his medical just as current Mag Odysseas Vlachodimos arrives in Sevilla to seal a loan move.
But there is more news to bring regarding interest emerging in Kieran Trippier and a move for a certain Brazilian midfielder ruled out.
Starting with Trippier, Downie has revealed this afternoon that Ligue 1 side Monaco are showing interest in the 34-year-old.
The French side are weighing up whether to make a formal move for the right-back, aware of the fact Eddie Howe is eager to keep the experienced defender on Tyneside for another season.
Losing Trippier would force us to sign a replacement, which would add to our mammoth task over the final three weeks of the window, where two strikers and at least one midfielder are already required once Thiaw’s arrival is wrapped up.
Elsewhere, Downie reports that Newcastle will NOT be signing Lucas Paqueta this summer.
Last week, Mark Douglas at the i did reveal that the Brazilian is ‘well-liked’ on Tyneside, suggesting he could be back on our radar.
However, Downie insists that we have not shown interest in signing Bruno’s best friend, even if the club remain in the market for another midfielder following Sean Longstaff’s sale and another injury to Joe Willock.
Paqueta, 27, was heavily linked during his time at Lyon and has recently avoided a ban from football, with a case regarding alleged illegal betting activity going in his favour.
❌ 🇧🇷 Told there is no interest from Newcastle in Lucas Paqueta, despite a lot of chatter on here… #NUFC are looking to add a midfielder, but not the Brazilian. https://t.co/NcjCFhwZU1

Paqueta is a talent, no doubt, but I didn’t see him fitting our disciplined pressing style of play. I would like to see us make a move for El Khannouss.

Wouldn’t be the end of the world if Tripps wanted to go as krafu is good enough cover, it’s just his experience is the problem.

Ashby has stood out for me pre season – with him & Krafth in the squad to cover Tino I wouldn’t mind Trips leaving if he wanted to – I’d be fine with him staying too though.
I think he’s good for the dressing room and younger players – but is hogging a big wage for how often he’ll play now 🤷🏼♂️.
I like the look of El Khan but worth remembering he’s another for ACON if we were to sign Wissa & Jackson still being heavily linked.

Where did the Paqueta thing come from?
We should cash in on Tripps if we can, he’ll be worth nothing next year.
