Newcastle back in for Ramos with PSG deal possible to sanction Isak sale – Report

On the eve of our first game of the Premier League season, our ongoing search for a striker continues to dominate the headlines.

As Alexander Isak refuses to train in a bid to force a move to Liverpool, we are closing in on Yoane Wissa but must sign two new forwards to sanction the Swede’s sale.

In the mean time, Eddie Howe is stuck with having no natural or prolific striker to call upon: the only manager in the Premier League in that unfortunate position.

So it makes sense why a new report is linking us with fresh interest in one of our previous big name targets, particularly after he made headlines midweek with an inspired performance for his club…

Mags renew interest in Ramos

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle have reignited their interest in PSG and Portugal striker Gonçalo Ramos, with both clubs indicating a deal could be done.

It was suggested last week that a move for the 24-year-old was looking less likely, although it seems things may have changed.

Craig Hope reports that Ramos is now a ‘live option’ once again in Newcastle’s small pool of striker options deemed good enough to replace Isak, with intermediaries now indicating that a deal is possible as PSG appear open to a sale.

Ramos produced some heroics midweek during PSG’s Supercup clash against Spurs, scoring a stoppage time equaliser then converting his penalty during the decisive shootout to gift the European Champions more silverware.

But as brilliant of a cameo that was, it’s unlikely to have changed the mind of Luis Enrique over starting Ousmane Dembele as the PSG no.9 for the upcoming campaign.

With 34 goals in 88 appearances for the club, a permanent move could be the fresh start Ramos needs, particularly ahead of the 2026 World Cup where Portugal already have immense depth in attack.

Decision: an unmotivated Isak or a motivated Ramos?

Earlier this week, it was hinted that in spite of Isak’s recent antics, those within the club still recognise his immense quality and that no other player on the market can do what he does.

Simply put, an unmotivated and unhappy Isak will still play football and score goals.

But there’s no guarantee that will happen, and Howe may rightfully stick to his word that only players who want to be here should be given the privilege to wear the shirt.

Combined with the impending arrival of Yoane Wissa, Ramos would be more than capable of matching Isak’s phenomenal attacking output.

And being close to two years younger than Isak would afford him the time to adapt to the Premier League and become the next face of the Newcastle United project.

  1. get him bought – he is a hard working player with an eye for goal, and can score with both feet and his head – tough as well –

  2. I thought the lad came out and said he was staying at PSG?!!

If he’s available we should go all out to get him imo & get rid of Isak as a no brainer!!. There is no way we get last years Isak back & he’s totally burned a section of fans who will never forgive & forget.

  3. Ramos and Wissa for me should work out well, if you look at Ramos’s stats they are very similar to Isak’s except he is better in the air, we know it is different in the PL but he has a great skill set and although mainly a sub now was a constant in the Benfica team.
I am advised the club were watching him at Benfica before he moved to PSG
Nothing in football is guaranteed but I would see this as salvaging our window if we could get it done, a very big if mind.

  4. Wissa & Ramos Vs Isak & Wilson is night and day. Two hard working ST’s, solid characters one with PL experience and the other with CL experience plus fantastic international success. If we could have these both in AND cash in insane money for Isak it would move Newcastle up to the next level and destroy all the garbage thrown at the club from a sponsored media campaign to try and disrupt every move we make. IF we could pull this off, I think it would terrify the so called big 6. With recruits already in, adding these two would put us right up there. So please football gods, shine a glimmer of light Toon’s way so we can properly shut all the ITK’s online and “pundits up”. THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT THE FUTURE IS TOON 😝😝

  5. Samu from Porto is the one we need to go all out for I think. Already a beast at 21 way more potential than Sesko or Ekitike

  6. It ain’t gonna happen. How many centre forwards have we been after this summer? (4, 5?) How many have we landed ? (0).
If we get Wissa (please!) that will be the end of 3 weeks+. And now we’re supposed to land Ramos in the blink of an eye?
    It ain’t gonna happen.

  8. Ramos said after the victory over spurs ( a few days ago) that he was staying at PSG .. so before the unhinged narratives begin about too slow to get him , turned down again , terrible transfer window and other assorted toys out the pram … Newcastle are not in for him according to Craig hope .. it’s just a story filling content

  9. Listening to Hugo Ekitike speak after the match, I think he’s 2 years off reaching Isak’s level. A massive shame he didn’t land with us. But also, Isak may get in the way of his natural development at Liverpool.

Might need to keep your toon training gear, Isak. Start writing that apology letter. We’ll have you back but you better earn it.
