Newcastle close to Jorgen Strand Larsen agreement? – Big claims on Wolves striker

Newcastle United need strikers and are running out of time to strengthen, but some interesting developments have emerged today on another Premier League target.

With a deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa becoming messy and the club requiring two new additions to even consider selling Alexander Isak, Wolves’ £60m-rated Jorgen Strand Larsen has now emerged as a serious contender to sign.

David Ornstein revealed that we’d firmed up our interest in the Norwegian earlier this week, but two reporters from the Midlands paper, The Express and Star, are now making some strong claims on a potential move.

Speaking on their Wolves podcast, Birmingham-based reporter Nathan Judah reveals that Newcastle and Wolves are only “£5m apart” on their valuations of the player:

“It’s going to be a big, big story. They (Newcastle and Wolves) are around about £5m apart (on their valuations) at this moment in time.”

Judah also claims personal terms will not be a problem, suggesting Newcastle make a swift move for the 6ft 4″ striker if the two clubs can strike an agreement and the dominoes fall into place for Wolves.

On that, Express and Star colleague Liam Keen confirms that while Newcastle are ‘pushing’ to get a deal done, it’s thought Wolves will demand £60m to sanction his sale.

This would hand the club a huge profit on the £23m paid earlier this summer to make his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent, and it’s claimed that Wolves would look to sign TWO replacements with that money.

  1. Get him in, if nothing else the lad’s a clinical finisher. He had a better conversion rate than Isak, Haaland, Salah etc. last season, he was second only to Chris Wood in the Premier League as I understand it. If he can carry that into our team he’ll be scoring for fun.

I know it’s not the most exciting signing, but I think it’s a sensible one IF we can get it done. Not holding my breath, mind.

  2. I said this earlier – sign him up, never mind the price, he’s big, he’s young, he’s available and he scores goals in the EPL! What on earth will we do if we DON’T sign him up????

  3. Here’s NUFC future, but we’ll have to be quick – only 10 days to complete. Sign Strand Larson + Wissa + Chris Woods, all at their asking price. With 3 goal-scoring c/fs and 2 left wingers and 2 right wingers, we’re set up for 60 matches.
Don’t worry about the money – we have a spare part, put up his price to £225 million and he either sits in out under-21 team and has no career left, or he goes to the only place who can afford him, let him swelter in the sand. (If only we had any connections in Saudi Arabia……….)

  4. I don’t see it happening. Honestly I think the terrible way the club has handled the Isak situation is going to make it incredibly hard to get anyone of quality going forward. Maybe those motivated only by money but those with any ambition will skip us. Unpopular opinion? Absolutely. The “right” thing to do might have been to do what we’re doing with Isak, but the smart thing would have been to let him go, good riddance and move onto better things. Not like we need the money is it?
