Newcastle’s striker pursuit has taken another twist today.
With a £40m offer for Yoane Wissa turned down by Brentford last week, it was reported in the days following that Toon chiefs had turned their attention to Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.
David Ornstein confirmed that we’d firmed up our interest via intermediaries last week, while reports in the Midlands suggested that we were pushing to land the big Norwegian.
The Express and Star suggested that Newcastle were just £5m away from matching Wolves’ valuation of the 25-year-old, and they have issued a major update today.
In their latest exclusive on the striker, the Express and Star report that Newcastle have made their first formal move for Strand Larsen, offering £50m.
However, it’s believed that bid has been turned down by Wolves, who are continuing to insist that last season’s 14-goal forward is not for sale.
This has also been confirmed by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, who adds: ‘Newcastle are trying very hard for striking reinforcements and the 25-year-old ex-Celta Vigo striker is one Eddie Howe admires.’
Larsen played in their 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, but was criticised for a poor display that ended with the striker suffering a late knock.
It may be unrelated, but Newcastle’s reported bid for Larsen comes just as Wolves close in on a £17m deal for Getafe forward Christantus Uche, who is expected to sign this week.
£50m bid rejected for Strand Larsen – which we knew coz all the talk has been a £60m valuation for the lad. But that’s just told Brentford we have the money for Wissa, just not prepared to bid what they want for him. We’re about £10m shy for both Strand Larsen & Wissa – wasn’t that how we operated under Ashley??

£50m bid rejected, good he’s not worth that.
Just get Wissa and loan someone decent to replace him during Afcon

Brentford said Wissa could go 50m to 60m. Let’s get Wissa in 50m. You might say he is 29, Harry Kane is 33 and still manages to put away hattricks (last weekend). Pound shop Toon at it again.

Ironically Uche is a player I’ve been desperate to see Newcastle bid for, for a year now. He would be a far more useful player to Newcastle. £22m buy out clause, two footed and aggressive, can play CM, ACM and also as a forward.

Looks like Victor Boniface move to Milan us off – that’s one we should jump all over.

T he difference between the club now and under Ashley is so big it’s impossible to describe. Ashley would never have signed players we have in the past three years.
We value him at 50 million. Bid not accepted and not for sale. Move on.
But nothing like Ashley tactics.

His right knee is a big worry, we got lucky with Demba Ba but that’s rare, Milan backed away for a reason.

Wolves are in for him .

Howe is keep making mistakes in transfer windows and it has been happening long before Eales, Mitchell came to the club!
Eddie goes after players that are not available for one reason or another and continues to pursue them even when there is no chance of getting them, why does he never learn?

I’m completely sick of all this bs . Why don’t we buy a conplete unknown ?? Like we did with cisse ?? And what a buy he was . These idiots need to pull their figures out and start doing deals now . The clock is ticking . Hurry the f#££ up

Just add £10 million to our £40 million bid for Wissa and get at least THAT one over the line. Time is running out and we need at least one striker in.

Don’t understand why we are not in for Dusan Vlahovic, I know Milan have interest in him but we should at least try.
kimtoon(Quote)
Agree, said this last night, we would get it back in higher league placing because we seriously risk finishing lower half without a forward.

could be the fact he’s on 300k a week
Absolutely glorious(Quote)
Wow, is he really !

If we can get Wissa or another Premier experienced forward I’d take a risk on Lucas Stassin from St-Etienne. He’s only 20 and hit double figures last season, his first season in ligue 1, 12 goals in 28 games, the 12th most of the season, with the lowest amount of appearances out of the top 25 scorers.
He’d likely flourish under Howe and despite St-Etienne stating that it would take a substantial offer for a sale to be considered, 30 to 40 million euros would represent a massive profit on a player who cost them 9 million a year ago and would likely be accepted.

When you’re looking at people like Strand Larsen it’s no more than a desperation bid… Get Wissa in and Vardy on a year’s performance related contract!!! We have nothing to lose getting someone like Vardy in for a year until we can sign someone who isn’t 19th choice.

Let’s not overpay for wissa and larsen ,their clubs don’t want to sell so move on but time running out.
