Despite a very promising display on Monday night, our defeat against Liverpool looks to have took a heavy toll on our squad.
It’s hard to imagine us losing the game with Alexander Isak in the squad, or with Anthony Gordon keeping himself from getting sent off just before halftime.
But we were also dealt with some terrible luck with in-game injuries, as each of Sandro Tonali, Fabian Schar and Joelinton were forced off with a shoulder issue, suspected concussion and potential groin injury respectively.
And in the case of Joelinton, there were initial fears that he could have re-aggravated the same injury which prematurely ended his campaign earlier in the year. But it may look like we have nothing to worry about for the time being…
Positive injury update on Newcastle star
Speaking on Instagram on Tuesday, Joelinton’s wife Thays provided a positive update on the midfielder’s fitness after he was forced off during the second half at St James’ Park.
Posting online earlier today, she said:
“And to answer everyone together, it’s not serious! It’s nothing to do with surgery!”
“Muscular injury and he will be 100% in a few days, unfortunately not in time to go defend the Brazilian National Team!”
Judging by Thays’ words, it looks like that definitely rules out Joelinton for the trip to Elland Road on Saturday, as well as being an option for Carlo Ancelotti over the international break, but fingers crossed he’s back in for the next home game against Wolves.
Who steps in for Joelinton for Leeds United clash?
Bruno Guimaraes put in a truly excellent performance against the Reds on Monday night, but just who will partner him for the upcoming game against Leeds?
All signs would point to Lewis Miley in defensive midfield and Jacob Ramsey playing alongside Bruno, as both made positive cameos in the Liverpool game.
Though Joe Willock recently returned to the squad after his injury pre-season, and Howe likely trusts him as a more attacking option whilst he gets Ramsey up to speed.

Arne Slot says “I´m not sure I saw a football match”
Ha, needs to get himself to Specsavers !!
Liverpool players said “they had a plan to NOT play for the first 15 to 20 minutes”, which was evident by all the fouls they committed in the first half.
Every pundit watching the game said it was one of the best they´d seen, and why the Premier League is so popular all over the world !
Arne Slot needs to head back over to the Dutch League, a bit out of his depth here it appears

Liverpool were very lucky to win, 2 up against 10 men they should have crushed it with a third goal, instead the succumbed to pressure after the Bruno goal and managed to get that third needing 11 mins of added time. NUFC will be good again this season based on this match but Liverpool defo need to sort their back 4, still e pe t them to win the league, defo a “got outta dodge” game

Glad it’s nothing serious but Tonali will be missed more imo
Absolutely glorious(Quote)
Instead of unsettling our players when they don’t need forwards maybe they should try getting defenders and midfielders who don’t get overrun and concede two goals against 10 men

Oh dear!
Anyone else remember when we used to get well written, thought provoking pieces here?
Is it worth going any further when you are confronted in the first sentence with “have took”?
